Hoyer Leads Charge As Gostkowski's Kick Wins It Late

Week 5 -- The Patriots defense dominated once again in the 2nd half while Brian Hoyer replaced Brady in the 2nd quarter after an injury(will be back next week) and led his team to 4-1 with a 15 point rally. In the 1st quarter Kyle Orton led his 2-2 Broncos to the 20 yard line of the Patriots but the rooke Knowshon Moreno coughed off a fumble from Ty Warren. But Denver challenged and won as he was already down. But 3 plays later at the 8, Moreno fumbled again and after further review he was down when he was hit by Myron Pryor but Denver did not challenge and Jerod Mayo got the football. But Brady and the Patriots could get nothing down for a 3 and out later leading to a 2-yard touchdown pass from Orton to Marshall, who had a big day today including a 60-yard catch and run to get them in position to score with 0:48 left in the 1st quarter and make it 7-0. Brady had to leave this game in the 2nd quarter with a bruised knee and was replaced by rookie Brian Hoyer. It was a rough 2nd quarter though, Denver scored a field goal with 6:13 left but Matt Slater had his best moment of the season, a 77 yard kick return up to the Broncos 23 yard line but all they got from that was a field goal. The Broncos responded with a big 60-yard catch and run play by Brandon Marshall with 1:40 left in the quarter to make it 17-3 Broncos at half time. The Patriots led by Brian Hoyer and a 22 yard run by Kevin Faulk set up a field goal by Gostkowski from 46 yards to begin the 3rd quarter but thats all the scoring there would be in the 3rd quarter as Wilfork and Thomas recorded sacks in the 3rd quarter. The Patriots on 6 plays and 78 yards set up Gostkowski again to make a 38-yard field goal to make it 17-9 Denver. Orton and the Broncos weren't effective in the 2nd half as Orton threw for only 87 yards in the 2nd half after ripping apart the Pats defense in the 1st half. The Patriots later went on a 16 play, 80 yard drive, highlights by a 30-yard run by Maroney which ended in a Maroney 9 yard run. But Hoyer was unable to complete a pass for the 2-point conversion so with 4:09 left, it was 17-15. Orton completed a 1st down to Graham on the next drive but it was a 3 and out after so New England got the ball back with 2:00 left in the game. The biggest play of the game was a 56-yar catch by Randy moss setting then up at the 16 yard line of Denver. The Patriots ran out some of the clock and with 0:37 left in the game, Gostkowski kicked his 4th field goal to give them the 18-17 win. Hoyer helped rally the Patriots from 14 down at half time and proved a reliable backup.

Patriots Take Blowout Loss To Titans as Johnson Dominates

Week 6 -- The Titans took a beating to the Patriots in Foxburo 43-24 as Johnson ran for over 200 yards, the Titans in all had 521 yards of offense, and the Titans ran for 301 yards on the day, it was ugly. After Gostkowski hit a 55-yard field in the 1st, Chris Johnson score a 4-yard touchdown run to give them a lead. Bironas added a field goal in the 2nd quarter along with a 12-yard by Johnson for his 2nd of the game and it was 17-3 at halftime. Welker put them within a TD with a 2-yard pass with 9:16 left in the 3rd quarter but Chris Johnson did it again, escaped a few tackles for a 70 yard gain and his 3rd touchdown of the game, it was then 24-10 Titans. Sammy Morris was the star runner of the day for New England on a day that the running game was awful and underused but he scored a 1-yard run and Moss caught a 3-yard pass, Bironas hit a 39-yard field goal with 49 seconds left in the 3rd quarter so New England headed into the last quarter down only 27-24 after a 21 point 3rd quarter. But Tenessee scored 17 unanswered points in the last quarter highlights by Johnson for an 8 yard touchdown and a very questionable call by the Titans near the end. Brady had thrown his 2nd pick of the game with 1:15 left and instead of kneeling, they let Johnson run. An unexpected Pats defense had no time to react as Johnson ran his 5th touchdown of the day in for 58 yards. The Patriots were flustered and furious over the Titans rubbing it in with Johnson and it will be surely remembered. But not as memorable as Johnson who ran for 234 yards, got 40 attempts and scored an astonishing 5 touchdowns while Vince Young didn't have to do much.

Coming off a big loss to the Tennessee Titans at home, the Patriots go out to
Tampa Bay to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs have been a surprise team this year going 4-2 and its the
second straight week the Patriots will play a team with a similar record. Tampa Bay is third in the NFL
in rushing yards but are 20th in passing behind quarterback Josh Johnson. Newspaper predicts: Patriots win 28-24.

Patriots Win Overtime Thriller in Tampa Bay On Moss Touchdown

Week 7 -- New England played and won its first overtime victory this season as they beat the Buccaneers who have lost 3 straight now. Despite being 20th in passing in the league, Josh Johnson completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Michael Clayton for the only score of the quarter. In the 2nd quarter an interception by Shawn Springs set up an 18-yard field goal and then with 5:48 left in the half, Brady completed it to Watson for a touchdown to make it 10-7. But Brady was then picked off leading a bomb from Johnson to rookie Steve Stroughter for a 52-yard TD which would make it 14-14 at half. Gostkowski hit another field goal in the 3rd but with 2:38 left in the 3rd, Carnell Williams would run it in for 10 yards to give Tampa Bay a 21-13 lead heading towards the final quarter. The Patriots didn't use Maroney this game after his rough outing last game and Fred Taylor ran in an 8-yard run and the two point conversion would tie it. Sammy Morris also had a good day getting 19 rush attempts and running a 2-yard run in with 4:29 left to give the Patriots the 28-21 lead. The Buccaneers coughed it up on a fumble by Williams but when it looked over, on 3rd and 14 for the Patriots, Brady through another interception to give Tampa the ball with 1:15 left. The Patriots defense failed as Antonio Bryant ran a 57-yard screen pass to the end zone and just like that it was tied with 51 seconds left and it would go into OT. In overtime, Josh Johnson and the Bucs went 3 and out. But on the punt Welker returned it from the Patriots 26
yard line to the Patriots 49 on a 23 yard punt return. 6 plays later Brady tossed an 11-yard touchdown pass to Randy Moss to win it 34-28 in Tampa Bay to go to 5-2.

Rams have won 3 straight to get to .500 :P
Great job, though, even if it IS the Pats.
