Amen Rice, Amen.

But really, you know what he's right. A-Rod shouldn't allowed into the Hall of Fame, nor should Bonds, and Petitte, and all the others who used to sterioids. I think it should be an unwritten rule that anybody using Steriods shouldn't be allowed into the Hall of Fame.

What if they have used steroids in the past? We should remove them from the Hall, right? Looking to science to improve your performance goes back to the start of baseball with Pud Galvin. That's over one hundred years ago. He's definitely not the only one from that time period either. Babe Ruth also looked to science. He injected himself with sheep testosterone:

Quote:
The Bambino fell ill one year attempting to inject himself with extract from a sheep's testes. This effort by more than a few athletes of his era to seek the healing and strengthening properties of testosterone prefigured the craze for steroids. When Ruth fell ill from his attempted enhancement, the media was told that Ruth merely had 'a bellyache.'

That doesn't mean Galvin and Ruth don't belong in the Hall. They were the best players of their time. We should be honoring them, even if they did use steroids. The players hitting home runs and striking out batters are the reason we spend money to watch this game and support it by buying merchandise. If the game was full of wimps who couldn't hit the ball out of the infield, nobody would watch baseball. It would die. It wouldn't be exciting anymore.

EDIT: With that said, I believe Bonds, Sosa, McGuire, Palmeiro, Ramirez, and others should be in the Hall of Fame because they did wonders for the sport, like it or not. They made the game exciting.

Look, I'm sorry, but that's completly insane. That is unbelievable. Don't believe everything you read. There is support on the internet for every crackpot theory in the world, but it doesn't mean there all (or any of them) true. And this, Red, is the definition of a Crack Pot theory that some source would had you believe.

It's the infrequent time again when cownip and I agree. That's completely unbelieveable. Red, unfortunately, not everything you read on the internet is true.

Has got to be a Crack Pot theory.

It's a theory just like Clemens taking steroids is a theory. I can't stress that point enough. You're acting just like I would be if I pursued that point further by saying it's completely unbelievable.

I got news for you, this is the real world. Good people do bad things, but that doesn't make them bad people. As for the quote, I read that in a children's book. Make of that what you will, I don't care. It doesn't mean it's not creditable.

Just think of it, Jeff Kent was right. How do we know all these Hall of Famers from the early 1900s didn't take steroids? Steroids became popular after World War One, which is the exact same time period Ruth played in. Think about it for a second. If people can get a hold of stuff now, think of how easy it would be then.

Quote:
People are so pinned on the era now versus the era then," Kent said. "How do we know about then? Do we really know about then? I think we're starting to understand and learn more facts about now, so everybody is trying to relate the records broken, the way ballplayers are bigger and badder and better than ever now, but how do we know about then?

I apologize. My tone in my earlier posts was condescending.

Gah! This whole line of discussion is insane. Babe Ruth did not take steroids or any of that, Mario is not some wise, experinced man who understands people particularly well nor is he extreamly ignorant and 12 (not that the two go together), and just because one person supports it doesn't mean its true. I never said Babe Ruth was a good person, and the reason I don't think so is blind faith in people. It's insane because there was no support to believe this, and there was no reason or science to use for this that was eaasily acessible (he was great from the get-go). Now let's get out of this and get back to the point at hand, Rice ripping Jeter.

It's ok. I wasn't being the best in my posts.

Cownip, first off, for all that we've been through, it feels good to know that you don't think I'm some ignorant 12 year old. I think I can go outside and smile.

Anyways, I think it's wrong to be ripping Jeter, he probably has some of the best work ethic in the majors. Jeter is probably the one of few players who plays the game to play the game. When did Rice even rip Jeter?

Rice was misquoted.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4417140

Jeter did fail to pay taxes for a few years in Florida, if I remember correctly. I don't think that makes him a bad player or role-model though. If you compare him to some of his current and former teammates... he's probably the best guy a kid can look up to on the Yankees right now.
