I agree, although, there are a lot of Red Sox "fans" like that. In fact it's like that for all Boston teams. Bunch of Bandwagoners.

About Ellsbury, he is overrated, many have touted him to be the next big thing. I have a hard time seeing him as even just a fringe All-Star, not that that's bad.

ESPN is a part of the whole "Red Sox Nation" message, I know this because there's a ton of fans in Ohio. It's like, come on guys, I know Cincy kind of sucks but Cleveland is at least decent and you have to rep some city you've never visited? Watch move tv plz

Hank Steinbrenner says:
"Red Sox Nation?" What a bunch of [expletive] that is. That was a creation of the Red Sox and ESPN, which is filled with Red Sox fans."

I should put that in my signature.

Also why I don't like the Red Sox:

Classy Red Sox GM Theo Epstein on February 22nd about the Yankees' 2004 Japan trip:

The Red Sox open this season against the Oakland A's in Japan. Appearing on Boston radio station WEEI last Friday, Epstein said, "Kevin Brown and Mike Mussina spent the whole time bitching about it ... and by the time the Yankees team got back from the trip they were all using it as a crutch." (Source)

And now Jonathan Papelbon on Boston's 2008 Japan trip:

"It’s been pretty ridiculous,” Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon said after his team’s first regular-season game in the eastern time zone.

Believe me, Papelbon isn’t on an island with his opinion. Even before the final out was registered last night, the Sox’ well-worn description of the 19-day road trip as “a business trip” had morphed into downright disgust.

“I feel like if we start struggling toward the end of the year, don’t ask questions. That’s if we do. I’m not saying we are,” Papelbon said. “We might breeze through that last month. But if aches and pains are starting to come that normally don’t, and intensity starts to lower, which I hope it doesn’t . . .but if that does happen don’t ask questions.”

“Not only to start out in Japan, but all the responsibilities they asked of us in Japan, the appearances, all the extra (stuff) besides going to Japan. Not only that but I think things were said and promised and not held up,” Papelbon said. “That certainly starts the trip out on the wrong foot.

“There’s not an exact reason why you’re going to win or lose a ballgame, but there are certain things that help predict the outcome and this trip is definitely starting to feel its effects,” he said. “It’s not just me, but I think a lot of other players.

It's not just Yankee fans, fairweather fans bug the crap out of me.

Ellsbury, I will admit is overrated, but he's better than Coco Crisp(real name, can you believe that?)

But that's because Crisp isn't very good in the first place. I remember when every Red Sox fan was psyched when they got him, for essentially Kelly Shoppach and Edgar Renteria. Now, Renteria is a near-All-Star shortstop (Lugo who?) and Shoppach is one of the better back-up catchers. They're lucky once-hot prospect Andy Marte became a bust, else they would look even worse.

You've got Matt Cain to look forward, too... and Barry Zito.

Uhm... J-Gao... Zito is blowing gas. Nothing left in the tank (or it's saltwater from the bay). Giants are regretting the 6 year contract.... OUCH... hey at least they know what it feels like to have a Kevin Brown or a Jason Schmidt...

For Yanks-BoSox I'd give adv Yanks... but not by much.... but more even than last year.

I just loved it when I watched a Dodger-BoSox exhib game at the doc's office, and this one boston fan was gloating... too bad the dodger prospects blasted the crap out of the boston prospects for the bottom-of-the-ninth comeback win. I sadly left the office in the 8th inning and heard the call on radio... wish I could have seen his face.

j-gao, i will partially agree with you that some red sox fans jumped on the band wagon after the '04 and '07 World Series Wins, but most of us were fans way before that.

and yes all of the red sox nation stuff is crap.
http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071003&content_id=2247502&vkey=news_bos&fext=.jsp&c_id=bos

who needs a president of the fans?

and finally, hitting in the clutch is not luck, are yiou saying that keith hernadez's 129 career game winnig ribbies are LUCKY!? playing in the clutch is one of the hardest things to do at the professional level in any sport, let alone baseball.

does anybody else hate people who root for the underdog just becasue theyre the underdog. ive got a friend who always roots for the team that is losing. even when the score changes he then roots for the other team taht is now losing.

Yeah my dad's like that. He doesn't pay much attention to sports, but we watched the NCAA tournament together, he always rooted for the underdogs.

Clutch is somewhat skill, but a little luck, and a lot overrated. Especially the way it is judged. Wouldn't it be better to hit a 3-run bomb in the 2nd inning than the 9th. It may be as interesting, but it would be better for your starting pitcher who would have to work even harder, as well as saving your bullpen from being forced to use its best arms all the time. Pitchers definitely prefer early leads. It would also help everyone else relax.

I realize Zito sucks. I was being sarcastic.

Their future doesn't look too bad. They got good young pitchers, Angel Villalona, and a top draft pick.

Once San Fran stops playing the old guys (or they start dying off)... they'll be mostly a very young team gaining experience... Their front office has stated that they will be testing out a large number of their prospects in their system at the top level this year.

BTW... re: NCAA tourney I usually root for underdogs too... fun watching Davidson tear up the field (still say that last play vs. Kansas was poorly played... they should have figured out that Kansas was just guarding Curry and maybe put the other shooter out there for a 2nd threat)

Clutch hitting is a little luck, a little skill, and a helluva lot of concentration. I admit I was a choke artist in my baseball days... the pressure is tremendous and your trying to hit a 3-run HR with no one on base...

OBVIOUSLY you'd rather not be in these situations... with better early offense/pitching... but crap happens (it always does in baseball), and you have to be ready for it...

Ironically.. I remember the Dodger announcers always point to Garciaparra's high Batting avg in "clutch" situations (7th inning+ +/-2 runs diff) ... yet proceeded to pop out /strike out looking when it mattered most... oh well....
