1.Can the Cubs end the curse at 101?
2.Will the Yankees be able to "buy" a World Series?
3.Can the Phillies repeat?
4.Who will be this years Rays, and will the Rays return to the postseason?
5.Will the Pirates have a winning record in 2009?
6.Who will be the Barry Zito of next year. (big contract, no results)

1. As a Cubs fan, I would of course say yes! There's no real opposition in the division to take the crown, and if they don't choke like this year, then yes they will.

2. So far, it looks like that's the plan and I think it'll work.

3. I think they'll repeat going to the playoffs, but not repeat winning or even getting to the World Series. They'll be just like the Red Sox of '07 and '08.

4. Giants. Other than acquiring Bob Howry (Sorry Lincecum!), they've had a good off-season.

5. No. They traded their only few good players in '08! (Bay and Nady mainly)

6. A.J. Burnett. He's only had ONE really good season, which of course was '08, and the Yanks offer him a huge 5-year contract?!

They can get there, and a lockout could occur, so they tie it. That could happen, I guess.

When he said "Buy" a World Series for the Yankees, he never said a World Series VICTORY, I thought that meant GOING to the World Series.

I thought he meant they would get the World Series, because when you buy something, you get it.

they didn't specify buying rings though... it's funny when you think about it, the New York Yankees are spending $200 million bucks a year just so they can give their players a bunch of rings.

And the large increace in prfoits as more and more people watch their games. Remember, the Yankees own their own chanenel, and a better team equals more fans watching equals more profit which means that Sabathia pays for himself. Sabathia is a franchise brand name type player, and people will pay/watch just to see him, kind of like they do for Derek Jeter. That's why they sign guys like this, baseball is a buisness. Sabathia is an investment. It's not that the Yankees have an unlimited amount of money, they still earn much more then they pay. People hate them because they pay their players more. But it's like Colonel Ruppert, the original owner of the Yankees, once said once said,
"I have no intention of selling Gehrig or any of my players who, in the judgment of Miller Huggins, can help the team to win another pennant, if possible, in 1929. I not only have no thoughts of breaking up the Yankees, but Ed Barrow, Huggins, and myself will exert our best efforts to strengthen them. Baseball is a sport as well as a business. In every sport the object should be to win on your own merits and not ask the other fellow to weaken himself deliberately to aid your cause."
The Yankees are simply doing what they can to winn and running a buisness, and I don't see anything wrong with it.

While I can definetly see any other team's perspective, do you sort of understand what I mean.

I think the part that's not fair is the fact that the team is in New York, as opposed to small-market teams like Kansas City and Oakland, etc. The Yankee franchise is much better financed, and the other teams can't do anything about it. Everybody's trying their best but the Yankees turn out better because, in the end, they have more money.

LIFE ISN'T FAIR! Unfortunatly, it's the truth. The Yankees have more money, and there's nothing any team can do about it.

1. if their first round opponent lacks one Manuel Aristides Ramirez Onelcida, then maybe. our main lure tends to be our most crippling weakness, though: the immortality that would come with being on THE CURSEBREAKERS. heh, maybe the Cubs should sign Manny and then trade Sori, who knows.
2. no.
3. possibly
4. the Mariners...I think.
5. they just got my boy Jaramillo, but no, I don't think they will. about the only thing that would solve their problems would be resurrecting Honus Wagner, Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell.
6. K-Rod

Will the Rays make the playoffs though? You forgot to answer that. I wish we could resurrect Honus, so we could finally win 83.

I'd pick Clemente personally, he was a franchise player and one of the most popular to ever play the game. You'd get a lot more viewers. Plus, he still has more baseball in him then Honus did when he died.
