Thats a question mark but I hope Kottaras can do well, he seems comfortable at the knuckleball and has a pretty good bat. He a lefty which is good considering that Varitek is reall only affective on the right side

And welome back Dr. K, where were you anyways?

Yes - I was discussing this on another board. At first I was devastated - I had hoped it would be Vtek 3 / Bard 2 games out of every 5. I was anxious to see what Bard could do.

But after reading about Kottaras being out of options - he's a decent backup, and he might really shine. He's caught Zink for years, he's a lefty, and cheaper than bard; the sox save $1.5mil by releasing Bard to go with Kottaras.

I'm not sold on it yet, but...in theo I trust.

no offense, guys, but bard isn't that good.
they have another prospect whose name i can't remember, but he is capable of filling tek's shoes, though not to the fans.

Uhm...Dusty Brown? Kottaras is a bit higher than brown. That's all we got for catchers: http://www.soxprospects.com/

Unless you're expecting the 20-year old Che Hsuan Lin of Korea to break out??

We had Kelly Shoppach, but traded him to the Indians. Another (albeit rare) bad move.

Bard is a great hitter for a catcher. He may not be phenominal defensively, or game-calling, but losing him is still a loss, when Kottaras and Brown are our two top catching prospects and neither are projected to have much upside.

But I personally think Kottaras will shine.

Interesting move indeed. Of course one thing I know is that Red Sox don't have good Catcher prospects.

But they have some amazing prospects in Josh Reddick, Lars Anderson, Michael Bowden to name a very few, should all have great careers.
