DrMario, it's odd that you seem so sure of Teixeira's HOF qualifications while Wright can't even be considered at this point. For the sake of argument, let's compare.

Teixeira:
28 years 10 months old
6 years of service
2 Gold Gloves
2 Silver Sluggers
1 All-Star selection
lifetime .290 avg, 203 HR, 676 RBI

Wright:
26 years 2 months old
4.5 years of service
2 Gold Gloves
2 Silver Sluggers
3 All-Star selections
lifetime .309 avg, 130 HR, 489 RBI

While Teixeira's power numbers are higher, you have to keep in mind that Rangers Ballpark is more hitter-friendly than Shea, and he's played in 200 more games overall than Wright. Their lifetime OBP/SLG/OPS numbers are actually quite comparable.

Wright steals more bases, but I'll ignore that as a league-specific stat.

But why the HOF talk already? Neither has played 10 seasons yet. I agree with cownip that it's too early to speculate.

Yes, in my mind, a guy needs at least 8 years before you can even mention it. In fact 8 years is pretty damn early to be talking about it too, but there are some exceptions, Ichiro and perhaps Santana coming to mind (Ichiro you could say after 6-7, but that's very, very rare) There are of course exception, Ichiro of course coming to mind (I didn't know David Wright was so young by the way, I thought he was 30-32. Wow.)

Wright was drafted out of high school. He made his MLB debut in the middle of the 2004 season when he was about 21 years 5 months old.

Side note: Jose Reyes made his debut the previous year one day shy of his 20th birthday.

Well, I said David Wright no beacause I thought he was like 24.

Of course, everyone is making more and more HOF predictions based on current number using highly advanced math calculations to predict what his stats will be for A)Career or B) Season.

As you so often say, what about injuries? Plus, it's impossible to predict if a player will be consistent the rest of his career or how much he will improve. The calculations are simple and assume consistency. Really they talk about this so often because they have nothing else to fill the news. When they said Lester was going to be a hall-of-famer just because he had a good first half (it was half way through the season), I just rolled my eyes. One good half or even 6 good years does not equal hall-of-fame. Look at Don Matitngly or Ron Guidry. Ron Guidry had one of the best 5 pitching seasons of all time, in my mind top 3. He's not a hall of famer, and Lester pitched nothing like that.

Pitching like 18-2 with one of the best curveballs in the game, he did good the whole year. These calculations are why they say people will make the hall of fame. No, it's not impossible to predict there stats, just VERY unlikely.

18-2? Lester went 16-6 -- good, but hardly exceptional. And remember that he has a grand total of one full season under his belt.

Who are these people that predicted he'll be in the HOF? And why would anyone listen to them?

Fox probably, they have terrible sports coverage for baseball (they have terrible everything coverage). I hate Fox haha. It is actually impossible, not just unlikely. 49/50 times they'll be wrong, and someitmes they just get lucky. Lester is great and appears unfourtanetly for me to have a bright future ahead of him. But hall-of-fame, especially after only 1 season? No one can predict that, these guys are not brilliant and it can not be done by calculations. So much of it is physical, and unless they actually look inside Lester's body and know excatly how much he will work out, what he'll eat and every little thing he'll do, then they don't know this early (even then they wouldn't haha).

Yeah things can change soo fast for players and its way to early to speculate about HOF things for most of the players talked about above. Except i really do think Ichiro should be looked at because he was a true pioneer player for baseball

off topic: cownip can i use the quotes in your sig for something (not on this site) ? ( The Yogi Berra ones)

If it's not on this site, then how would I know? Of course, use them on another site, use them on this site, even put em in your sig if you want. I have no ownership of them, just look google for yogisms.
