vs Right handers

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't it that Lefty pitchers do better against leftyhitter, not right-handed ones.--J-Gao 19:56, 8 May 2008 (CDT)

I believe you are right, the original statement doesn't make any sense.--Tgjason 20:22, 8 May 2008 (CDT)
Yeah, what happened was this page used to also be about a non-existent Vs Righty ability. The reference to righthanded batter is residue from that. Check the page history.--Odawali 20:48, 8 May 2008 (CDT)
Edited and fixed. Deleted the part about Lefty/Righty matchups as that's not what this ability is about - it affects hitters against Lefty pitchers no matter which side they bat from.--Odawali 20:51, 8 May 2008 (CDT)

Description

"In professional baseball, left handed pitchers have an advantage against right handed hitters and vice versa. It is not clear how this translates into the game, or why there isn't a right handed equivalent." - First, isn't a lefty-lefty match up considered an advantage to the pitcher? Second, the reason there's no right-handed equivalent is simple: For players who do exceptionally well against righties, simply boost their base stats and give them a negative vs Lefty ability. One ability covers all. I also don't get the "In professional baseball..." heading in all these "new format" pages. Shouldn't we assume users would have basic baseball knowledge? Gyroball is of course an exception because that isn't part of conventional baseball knowledge.--Odawali 17:53, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Also as stated before, the batter's handedness has nothing to do with this ability. It's simply a boost (or penalty) for hitters who do notably well (bad) against left handed pitching, regardless of which side they hit from. So I think the general statement of Lefty-Righty matchups being good/bad/whatever in real life is completely irrelevant. If I were to follow the format, the introduction would probably read In professional baseball, some hitters do notably well or notably bad against left-handed pitchers. This ability simulates such discrepancies of performance., but probably not even worth mentioning as it's kind of self-explanatory.--Odawali 18:07, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Please correct whatever you see fit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-handed_specialist Has some info on what i was trying to state originally. --rsoohoo 18:56, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Also, to be consistent, let's use the same format of description for all abilities that can scale by number (2-5). --rsoohoo 19:02, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

In professional baseball, left handed pitchers are less common, so batters naturally have less experience against these types of pitchers. Again, how is this relevant to this ability? There are as many VS Lefty 4/5s as there are 1/2s. It gives both boosts or reductions depending on the type of player. What does that have to do with how real-life hitters generally do against left handed pitching? I really don't see the merit to these "In professional baseball..." sections. They're too abstract and generally not informative.--Odawali 03:01, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

You do have to wonder why there isn't a vs RH ability, does this mean that any kind of batter can have an bigger advantage over a LH pitcher with vs LH 4 then a pitcher does against a RH pitcher??? --rsoohoo 04:28, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Because if you want to create a player who does well against RH opponents, you can simply give him higher stats and a negative vs Lefty/LHB ability.--Odawali 05:23, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
