Retirement

Retirement in MLB Life occurs when one of these two things happen:

  • You reach your 20-year career limit.
  • You ask the Manager to retire.

After you ask the manager to retire, or before you've reached your limit, you will get a date as to when your final game will be. You don't get to play one month before your retirement date (clarification on this needed), but you do get to play on your retirement date.

Before the game, the coach and manager both reminisce on your playing career, saying things, like "I'll never forget the first time you stepped onto the field" and "Make this a performance to remember." Your wife (if you have one) will call out to you, saying that she will watch to the very end.

After the game, there is a cutscene where you first stand outside the dugout, followed by a panoramic view of the stadium you played in, with your retired character in bottom of the screen. The player then starts walking around the field, acknowledging the crowd, until the camera shifts to right field, zooming out while walking away from the camera, thus ending your career.

Also, contrary to popular belief, your number will NOT be retired.

After the cutscene, your manager comes to you and says that he wishes you still had some play time left in you, but thanks you for your service. Your wife (if you have one) will then say that you've played for X years, and then ask you to take a rest. Afterwards, you reflect on your life, and a credits-like scene shows you the achievements and awards you have amassed throughout your career. Afterwards, the MLB Power Pros 2008 credits will roll.

After The Credits

After the credits, you can save your player to an MLB Life Roster, where there are 3 slots to save your player. If you go into that player's MLB Life Roster screen, you will be able to see the career stats, awards, rumors, and most of the stuff you would see in the Profile and Skill sections during the game.
