Entry 1: Lucifer Shatain

It seemed like a regular day in the Bordello Casino. The ring of those fixed roulette wheels and the sound of those slot machines filled the air. Billionaire, Gambler, and now Casino owning Lucifer Shaitan was top dog in Las Vegas. No one quite knew how Lucifer made it from a suspected gang ruffian all the way to the top. There were always those rumors about his steady clime through the gangs of Las Vegas. There were always whispers of the use of his muscle to convince those casino owners to fix those machines for him. Lucifer never minded them, he found them amusing. Either way, no one could dismiss his success. Now he owned the place where it all started. The place where he first learned that to make it in life, you can't just rely on luck. This was the place where he had put his life, soul, and aspirations into, the place where he had earned his millions and established himself as one of the biggest and best gamblers this city had ever seen. Now, billionaire Lucifer Shaitan was beyond gambling, he was owner of the Bordello Casino, the biggest Casino and property in all of Las Vegas. And he had big plans for this Casino, big plans. He called up his architect, Françisco Mansart, and discussed his plans for the sports complex on the edge of the Casino. What's more profitable then the biggest golf course in Las Vegas? A Major League Baseball Team! Lucifer was never one for golf, and he'd choose baseball over it any day.

Entry 2: Tartarus Baphomet

Tartarus Baphomet never quite made it. You know the story, the usual local Baseball star that thinks they can make it all the way but gets stuck in Double A. Baphomet had seen it all the time, but he just believed that he was better, that he had what it took to make in to the Major Leagues. As a player, that dream died at the age of 35 as he realized it was impossible. But the dream of reaching the Majors was still not dead. Baphomet was a good baseball guy and knew his stuff. As a player who actively kept up with all the teams, he would always call the best moves and possibilities and was right every time. He got a a job as a GM for Single A and made it all the way to Triple A, a hairs width away from the Majors but just stopped short. Baphomet was gettigng old at the age of 55 and realized his dream wasn't going to happen. Down on his luck and depressed after having given it all up only a week ago, Baphomet went where all men go when they try to forget their troubles. He was hoping his luck would change and at least he could get a little cash to bring back to his family, but he never expected his luck to change the way it did.Baphomet had rented a room in the Bordello Cassino and was ready to wash his troubles away. After a long night of gambling and some time at the bar, Baphomet was more then a little bit tipsy. He went to check in. He mumbled his name to the woman at the desk who asked him a few questions, all of which he answered yes as he swaggered of to his room.

It was 1 PM in the Afternoon at room 201. Baphomet had just struggled out of bed and was ready to check out and head back home with a pocket that weighed 5000 dollars less. His head was throbbing and heavy as he got dressed in a very nice suit he didn't remember buying. God did he regret last night, he should never have left himself with that much money. Baphomet heard a knock and went to the door and looked at the Eye-Hole to find out who had arrived. Outside stood a strong, tall, white man with broad soldiers the cold air of someone powerful. Baphomet's at least 1000$ suit that he regretted buying last night paled in comparison to this strange man's fancy, black tuxedo. Baphomet opened the door. The man's cold, fierce red eyes gave Baphomet an uncomfortable feeling as he studied him quickly before introducing himself as Lucifer Shaitain and gave Baphomet a very strong, hard shake. "It's an honor to meet you Gene Michaels, I'm glad you were able to make it a week early. I'm sorry I'm so late but the desk hostess didn't know you were coming late last night and I had to cancel a lot of important meetings to meet with you. Anyway, let us talk upstairs Gene." Baphomet had no idea what he was getting into, but he had a feeling this was a result of last night. He must have said or agreed to something with the desk hostess. He was about to say something but when Lucifer stared at him as he stood frozen in his spot, Baphomet's couldn't say anything and followed Lucifer Shaitain to the elevator, to the 54th floor, and into his office.

"This office cost more then my house" Baphomet though to himself as he sat down across from Lucifer's Brazilian Rosewood desk. "Now as you know Gene, your on the top of my list and the job is probably yours, but I have a few questions about what your plans would be as a GM of the soon to be expansion team, The Las Vegas Devils. Its simply protical. Now as you know, I am a fairly rich man but I have my limits, at least to begin with. Right now I'm investing 40 million, just for the first year". Oh God, what had he got himself into. Once again Tartarus Baphomet tried to protest, but the words died in his throat. He had run through this situation, this job interview for years, but never under these circumstances. He knew he'd pay for it and messing with a man as powerful as Lucifer Shatain was dangerous, but he didn't let him stop him. Baphomet knew exactly what to say. Despite the fact that he had told himself he'd given up, he never quite let his dream go and had daily studied the most recent scouting reports and knew right off the top of his mind what the best trades, deals, free agents anyone should sign. You see, despite his weakness to alcohol and his fear of Lucifer, Tartarus Baphomet was a brilliant man. When he had the confidence, Tartarus had a silver tongue and was a charismatic man. But until this moment, Tartarus had had all his confidence stripped away like his dream. Yet when Lucifer posed the question, the gears in Tratrus's mind immediately began to turn.In the outside world he could be awkward and uncomfortable, but in the world of baseball, no one felt more alive and at ease then Baphomet. So Baphomet began to talk. He talked of trades, of free agents, of the rookies and the young guys that would one day be stars. He talked and talked for hours. Lucifer sat and crossed legged and quietly, occasionally picking up his pencil to take a few notes or putting a hand to rustle through his dark, brown hair. Dusk had begun to rise when Baphomet had finally finished as 5:00 was approaching
Lucifer sighed and put down his pencil. "Your not Gene Michaels, are you?"
Baphomet felt jerked back into the real world and back into the awkward state had had been in when he entered the office. "Nn.. No, No Mr. Shatain, I'm sorry, it all happened so fast, I, I could.."
"Stop", Lucifer mentioned, "I don't care how you did it or why it happened. What matters is you lied to me, to Lucifer Shaitain, the most powerful man in L.A.. Now do you actually expect me to consider you? Not only do you not have any experience but you tried to hood-wink me and pretend to be Gene Michaels. I don't even know who your are or what you've ever done in the world of Baseball, but once again, I don't care. Whoever you are, You're hired."
"Please Mr. Shatain, it was an accident. I was drunk last night, there's nothing I could...
"Wait, what did you say?"
"Your hired. You are the new GM of the Las Vegas Devils."
Tartarus Baphomet's dream had been acquired.

Two New Teams for the West? Los Angeles might be getting some competition.

The Icon for the future Las Vegas Devils
Yesterday, Baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn announced that the AL had finally given in and had allowed two teams to join the AL West. The first team, based in Las Vegas, is owned by multi-billionaire and world-famous casino owner Lucifer Shatain. Known as the Las Vegas devils, Lucifer's Shatain's team will reside in Las Vegas own Bordero Cassino, which is not only the casino with the largest amount of property in the U.S. but is also widely regarded as the most successful casino in the world. The stadium will replace two of the less prominent golf-courses in the Casino and will be considered completely separate from anything else in the Casino, an effort to keep it "Family Friendly" Lucifer Shatain said. The AL West is generally considered one of the easiest divisions. Lucifer has invested 300 million dollars into his stadium, plans of which have just been released. Known as Panapaka Park, this state-of-the-art stadium has its own unique look and style. The Stadium is slugger's worse nightmare with what is by far the largest out field in the game and the furthest right wall. Capable of holding 55,000, Panpaka Park will be one of the largest stadiums in the Major Leagues. Obviously, Lucifer Shatain is banking on his team being successful as most new expansion teams are incapable of drawing even 20,000 a night. When asked about his ambitious stadium, Lucifer said, "I know it seems a long shot, but I believe we have chance at the AL West. With the exception of the Angels, the other three teams are relatively weak and if the Angels face any problems or suffer any major injuries, you never know. We're already in negations with several players from other countries and we've scouted and found quite a few players that are generally under the radar of most other teams. I'm not saying we're going to set the league on fire and take first place right out of the gate, but we might have an outside chance at the wild card." Information about the second team has currently not been released, but there appears to be some interest in a team for Cooperstown. It appears that negations have not been finalized and no details have been yet determined. As strange as it would be for a New York team to be in the West, the AL League will only submit to allowing 2 more teams in the West and no where else.

In all of my players, their back-stories, and even the team's staff, I used plenty of hidden references. See if you can spot any of them out while your reading. Here's a list of SOME, but not all of the references:
Baphomet- The last name of the GM. Baphomet is a demon supposedly worshiped by the Knights Templameans
Lucifer-The Owner's first name. The apparant name of Satan before he fell from Heaven,(Christian Beliefs)
Bordello- Cassino originally meant a small villa or pavilion built for pleasure. The term for that today in Itallian is Bordello, which is why the cassino is the Bordello Casino.
Tartarus- GM's first name. Greek Word for Hell
Shaitan- Arabic word for Satan
Gene Michael -An old, relatively-successful General Manager for the Yankees, a big part of the reason for the 1998 Yankees
Brazilian Rosewood- Arguably the most expensive type of wood, Mr. Shatain's desk is made of it to show his wealth
