Handedness is the preference for use of a dominant hand, left (L) or right (R). In baseball, hand dominance may differ between batting and throwing (B/T). Handedness will often help to determine the Baseball Position for which a player is best suited. Defensively in baseball, left-handedness is considered an advantage for first basemen because they are better suited to fielding balls hit in the gap between first and second base, and because they do not have to pivot their body around before throwing the ball to another infielder. For the same reason, the other infielder's positions are seen as being advantageous to right-handed throwers. A left-handed batter starts his run to first base somewhat closer than a right-handed batter. A switch batter (S) can bat well from either side.

Conventional baseball wisdom suggests that, when a pitcher and a hitter pitch or bat with the same hand, the pitcher typically has the advantage. This especially holds true for left-handed pitchers, as lefties are less common in a major-league lineup than righties.

Below are the counts of season mode pros at each position based on their Batting/Throwing handedness. These totals are only for the player's primary position and do not consider a player's 2nd Position.
