I don't think this has been mentioned before but there's glitch that lets you choose a batting stance for your pitcher. Unfortunately the only choices available are Standard1, A-Rod, Vlad and Hideki Matsui. Anyway, I figure it's better than having just the generic one as an option.

Step 1 During player creation, when you're asked to choose a position, choose a fielder's position.

Step 2 On the next screen, you'll be asked to choose a hitting stance. The cursor should be on Standard when you first reach this screen. Move the cursor on Open and hit the back button. (Circle on PS2)

Step 3 Now you're back on the select position screen. Your character viewer should show your player with A-Rod's stance.

Step 4 Select a pitcher's position and start the game. Your character should have A-Rod's hitting stance instead of the generic one.

Getting Other Stances
In Step 2, try moving your cursor on other stances before hitting the back button. For example, if you move it on Open, then back to Standard and hit back, your player should get a Standard 1. If you move it on Closed and hit back, you get Hideki Matsui. Crouching and Original give Vladimir Guerrero.

I've tested this on PS2 and don't know about Wii... It would be nice if someone can confirm it.

Nice! This is great because I wanna try to make a pitcher with a 2nd position of 3B or something, and now he wont have to have a generic stance.

I don't think you can have a pitcher with a 2nd position... I know that a fielder can't have pitcher as a 2nd position...

You can buy a fielder's position from the ability boost screen.

yes, and the costs are significantly higher on the fielder panel for pitchers.

A note, you can't make a fielder pitch because he wouldn't ever get breaking ball experience, a usual requirement of pitching abilities.

Does it work for 2008 too?

I think it does, but not quite the same way. I've only gotten Vlad's stance so far, but then I haven't unlocked all stances yet.

There are 3 or 4 different stances you can get if you have all the stances unlocked on 08 I'm pretty sure. If you go into one of the forms(open, closed, standard, or special) and back out you should be able to get either 3 or 4 different stances. I'm thinking it's 3 ecause I remember getting Vlad twice while testing it out. But, I think it only chooses from what you have unlocked ecause I used to be able to get Kaz Matsui before I unlocked another stance(can't remember which one).

I couldn't get it to work, but I'll try once I finish my almost maxed player. Or at least decent player. (2008 version)

I confirm this for 2008 version. You can also give your hitters unique pitching forms.
