I never said he was an all time great from just 5 years, you took that out of context. I was simply stating there was an extended period where he was the best player in the game on both sides of the ball and his stats were on par with the greats.

Couldn't you say the same exact thing for Cabrera though?

Cabrera hasn't been nearly as good and its been over a shorter period of time

.330/.435/.628, 177 OPS+, 41 HR and 122 RBI per year
.337/.425/.628, 177 OPS+, 39 HR and 127 RBI per year

The first one is Pujols from 2006-2010, the other is Cabrera from 2010-2013. The players are almost identical offensively, and to say that "Cabrera hasn't been nearly as good" is kind of ridiculous.

Now, as of now, Cabrera's peak is shorter (especially since Pujols' peak really started in 2003), but heading into his age 32 season he has a chance to extend his to six, maybe seven seasons.

Why would you choose those years? That seems like a very arbitrary length of time

They're night and day defensively though, Pujols had the single best defensive season at 1B ever one year, while Cabrera is a huge liability all over the diamond

But do HoF voters look at defense primarily when picking who goes in? And besides, Cabrera is a lot better than you think defensively at 1B. Maybe not as good as Pujols, but it isn't like he's a black hole there.

Wouldn't a black hole describe a good defensive player? Like they suck everything in?

No, it means like there's nobody there in this case. It's playing off of how you can't see a black hole I guess

Each players' peak. Pujols' could be defined as 2003-2010, but his OPS+ over that time is still 177+ and nothing else really changes either.

what i *(censored)* love about skitz and dish and dtigers and a bunch of you is how well you guys analyze the game and other players.

id go with pujols. outstanding work over a long period of time, although cabrera is younger and has time to catch up i feel like he's just a bit too far behind. if i wasnt so lazy id talk in more detail about this but w.e, two hall of famers assuredly though.
