Just so I can get a little ahead here, how would you guys like to see updates done once the season starts? I could go by monthly reviews, similar to AgentP's log. Or I could do more like Skittles, and provide game scores and some brief recaps maybe. Another option is to do it the more traditional way, which would be watching games and then recapping them, while also monitoring the team while I sim, like my dead Rockies log.

Please, if you have any preference at all, let me know.

I think the common practice is to do chunks of games at a time, because one-at-a-time goes really super slow in OOTP. Best to do a couple series at a time, IMO.

I sim one day at a time (note: sim, not the play/watch option), and then view the box score of each game as I go.

UBL Inaugural Draft Recap: South Division

The Independence Chiefs are up next, and they were the unfortunate team to draw the 16th pick. This led to them getting the 1st pick of round 2, though. The Chiefs didn't seem afraid to pick players who were getting up in age.

Image Independence Chiefs Image
The Chiefs had the last pick of the 1st round, and decided to go with a starting pitcher, 28 year old Marty Gibbs(74/75). Gibbs looks like ace material, and knows how to get the job done on the mound. He only throws 3 pitches, but they all have good movement and he has great control too. In round 2, Independence made a good pick by going with 30 year old third baseman, Carl Morris(68/68). Morris excels in contact hitting and gap power, and is one of the fastest guys in the league too. He hardly has any power, but likes to think he does and flies out a bit too often. Overall, he should make an excellent leadoff man for Indy. The Chiefs picked up another speedster in round 3, selecting 31 year old left fielder Danny Sharpe(68/68). Sharpe is an average batter with a good eye, and plus-plus speed. He is also an outstanding defensive left fielder. Independence went back to pitching in round 4, taking 32 year old SP Matt Patton(76/76). Patton is a darn good pitcher, and has a good selection of pitches, good movement, and good control. The only reason he wasn't taken until round 4 has to be his age and contract. Indy went with a starting pitcher again in round 5, taking 29 year old SP Steve Glenn(54/54). Glenn is a back-end starter, and has inconsistent stuff and struggles with his control. But, the movement he has on pitches keeps the ball inside the park for the most part. Independence has the 10th ranked minor league system, which includes the #1 prospect, 24 year old SP Roy Walton(34/69), who was taken in the 6th round.

Image
The Chiefs were able to snag the #1 prospect of the draft, 24 year old lefty pitcher Roy Walton. Walton will begin the season playing in West Bend, Independence's AAA affiliate.

UBL Inaugural Draft Recap: South Division

The Fort Wayne Wizards picked 6th and then 11th in the draft. Let's take a look at their haul.

Image Fort Wayne Wizards Image
Fort Wayne took young 26 year old third baseman Howard Harris(77/78) with their first pick, the 6th overall. Harris is a prototypical leadoff hitter, with good contact, blazing speed, a good eye, but not much power. He's an average defender who can be trusted to make the routine plays. The Wizards selected 30 year old starting pitcher Carlton Mitchell(78/78) in round 2. Mitchell has the potential to be one of the top 3 pitchers in the league. He has the ability to rack up the strikeouts, due to his excellent movement and unrivaled command. Mitchell can put the ball wherever he wants, whenever he wants to. In round 3, the Wizards drafted 26 year old left fielder Russ Franklin(66/68). Franklin is another contact hitting speedster, just not to the extent of the Wizards' first round pick, Harris. However, Franklin is easy to fool and often swings at bad pitches, which leads to strikeouts. Fort Wayne took a pitcher in round 4, 28 year SP old Dan Powell(68/68). Powell is another solid, well rounded pitcher, and will make an excellent #2 man behind Mitchell. And in the 5th round, Fort Wayne picked 32 year old first baseman Ed Jones(74/74). Jones is a power hitter, and has slightly above average contact ability too. His defense and base running are both weak, though. Fort Wayne didn't draft many highly ranked prospects, and were given a rating of 14th best minor league system.

Image
Fort Wayne's ace, Carlton Mitchell, is definitely one of the best pitchers in the South Division.

UBL Inaugural Draft Recap: South Division

The Fishers Blue Devils had the 12th and 5th picks. They went with a lefty-heavy lineup, as it appears as if 5 out of their 8 starting fielders bat left handed.

Image Fishers Blue Devils Image
Fishers took a third baseman in 1st round, selecting 26 year old 3B Manuel Meneces(67/68). Meneces is an elite contact hitting speedster, but lacks power and is an average defender. Meneces is durable though, plus he is a fan favorite. In round 2, the Blue Devils took 29 year old starting pitcher Mario Martinez(76/76). Martinez is a team leader, and can be the anchor of nearly any pitching staff. He has good stuff, good control, and a lot of movement on his pitches. The 3rd round saw Fishers take another 29 year old, shortstop Ken Crawford(68/68). Crawford is a well rounded player, and is an above average hitter and defender. Sadly, he lacks the speed it takes to steal many bases, and is an awful base runner. In the 4th round, Fishers bolstered their rotation by taking starting pitcher Steve Adams(72/72), the 33 year old. Adams has solid stuff, along with average movement, but is a complete control master. His ability to place pitches perfectly has helped him tremendously, and should make him just as effective, even when his stuff starts to decline. Better options were available in the 5th round when the Blue Devils picked, but they decided to draft 38 year old starter Ollie Warner(53/53). Warner is essentially an average pitcher, who hammers the lower half of the zone so batters struggle to get it out of the park off of him. It doesn't look like he'll be playing too much longer though. A bit of bad news for Fishers in the minor league report as well, as they drafted the 16th ranked(worst) farm system. Ouch.

Image
Fishers's first round pick, 3B Manuel Meneces, will lead the offense for a Blue Devils team with an aging pitching rotation.

UBL Inaugural Draft Recap: South Division

The Evansville Brawlers are the next team to be dissected in our draft recap. They had the luxury of picking 4th in the 1st round, but 13th in the 2nd.

Image Evansville Brawlers Image
Evansville picked 4th in the first round, but were only the second team to take a fielder. They decided that 28 year old third baseman, Philip Richards(80/80), was the second best hitter. Richards is indeed talented, with the ability to hit for a high batting average, plus electrifying power. Richards is also a pretty good fielder, but like so many other picks, lacks speed. The Brawlers filled their ace role in round 2, going with 27 year old Darryl "White Swan" McSwan(70/71). McSwan has good stuff, and shows good command by keeping the ball low in the zone. His ability to pitch deep into games is also impressive. Evansville went back to the bats in the 3rd round, selecting 27 year old right fielder, Don Irwin(66/66). Irwin is above average in pretty much all offensive categories, and is even a good runner. His defense won't kill a team, either. Overall, Irwin is a very solid, well rounded pick. The Brawlers drafted 27 year old starter Mike Glover in round 4. Glover is a groundball pitcher, and gets really good movement on his sinker. Besides the sinker though, the rest of his pitches are relatively weak. However, he hits his spots most of the time, and the sinker keeps the ball on the ground and Glover out of trouble. Rounding off the top 5, the Brawlers took another starting pitcher, 29 year old Jody O'Herlihy(59/60). O'Herlihy is an even more extreme version of Glover, with a killer sinker. But, O'Herlihy is not as well rounded as Glover, and has much worse control. However, O'Herlihy's sinker is even better than Glover's, which leads to even more groundball outs. O'Herlihy's sinker was scouted as "practically unhittable", but the same scout described his control by saying, "This guy's catcher will have to be on his toes in order to keep pitches from reaching the backstop". Evansville's minor league system is ranked 11th in the UBL.

Image
Philip Richards was just the second fielder taken in the draft, and it appears as if he will most certainly be one of the top hitters in the league.

UBL Inaugural Draft Recap: South Division

The Bloomington Bluebirds had the 2nd pick of the first round, and 15th of the second.

Image Bloomington Bluebirds Image
The Bluebirds, picking 2nd, were able to nab the best pitcher in the draft, 25 year old SP Aaron Matthews(79/79). Matthews only throws three pitches; fastball, slider, and splitter. His fastball and slider are nearly unhittable, and his splitter is a really good out pitch. He has strong command, good stamina, and could easily be the young ace of any team. In round 2, the Bluebirds drafted a catcher to compliment their ace, taking 27 year old C George Talley(77/77). Talley is a very capable defender, with decent contact, good power, and a superior eye at the plate, but he runs like a catcher... Poorly. Bloomington took 27 year old center fielder Scott Payne(66/67) in the 3rd round. Payne is pretty much average or above average across the board. He has above average contact, power, and speed, plus an average eye and is an average fielder in center. The Bluebirds selected their #2 starter in the 4th round, going with 28 year old SP Willard Conlan(68/68). Conlan is a dependable pitcher, and consistently has good command and movement on his pitches. His pitch selection is average, and is enough to get him by. He doesn't throw very hard for a pro, usually bringing his fastball at 89-90 MPH. The Bluebirds seem to have been looking to build a strong rotation, as they drafted another young arm in round 5. 24 year old SP Tynan Minahan(63/64) will make a strong #3 starter for a tough Bloomington rotation. Minahan has a good fastball and changeup, and mixes in some other pitches as well. He likes to paint the corners, and possesses the good command it takes to do so. The BBirds have the 12th ranked farm system. The heart of Bloomington's order should do fine, but the rest of their lineup may struggle just to get on base, let alone score.

Image
Young righty Aaron Matthews is the ace of what very well could be the best starting rotation in the UBL.

Yeah, most of their hitting looks pretty weak but their pitching is incredible. They have a 79, 68, 63, 63, and 54 overall as their starting 5 pitchers.

It's Bloomington, Illinois. I believe it says that on the first page...

Thanks for bringing back my hometown wizards. :)

Can I be the manager/GM please?

1.) please don't quote that whole post, these pages are already long enough. ;)
2.) I really don't care but I have no clue how to so that and it's not like you'd be able to do anything special even if you were the manager or GM.
