Yeah, but Joyce got traded like three days later, so I decided not to count him

The trading deadline has come and gone, and as expected, the Expos were heavy sellers. Here's a recap of their moves

• Traded 33 year old OF Jorge Garza (4.5 stars) to the Houston Astros for SP Mike Foltynewicz and MR Kevin Chapman. While the Astros aren't competing this year, the cheap price for Garza was just too good to pass up. While a bit on the older side, Garza is an above average hitter and can cause havoc on the basepaths. The "veteran" should provide some leadership to the young locker room and help shore up the outfield. In return, the Expos got the flame-throwing righthander Folty, who with a bit more control could become a solid 2-3 starter in the majors. If not, he grades out more as a reliever, where he can harness his top of the line stuff in short bursts. The Expos also got the reliever Chapman, who should provide some stability to an otherwise useless bullpen.
• Traded 39 year old SP Jaun Alvarez (3 stars) to the Miami Marlins for OF Marcell Ozuna. The Marlins are firmly entrenched in the playoff race, and needed something to bolster what is just an okay starting rotation. Alvarez not only plugs a hole for the currently injured Eovaldi, but also acts as a figure of authority to the clubhouse. On the other side, the Expos acquire the four-tool Ozuna. Due to the backlog of outfielders on the Marlins (Stanton, Melky, Yelich, Marisnick waiting in the wings), Marcell was delegated to AA for most of the year. He was okay there, putting up a .756 OPS, but he'll be given a shot to start in Montreal.
• Traded 28 year old OF Jose Rodriguez (4 stars) to the Los Angeles Angels for 2B Taylor Lindsey. Most of the Angels issues this year have to due to outfielders not named after fish, so it makes sense that they'd acquire Brantley and Rodriguez on back to back days. Rodriguez is an okay hitter to the tune of a .259/.333/.441 slash line, but he can also play a pretty mean defense. For the Expos, they get themselves a quality second base prospect, something their system had been sorely lacking. Lindsey has good gap power and contact coupled with some solid speed. He was making work of AAA, as he was on pace for a 4.0 WAR. However, due to the injury to starting second baseman Ron Walker, Lindsey will make his major league debut tonight (8/1).

I simmed to the end of the season. I can't take any more of this roster.

We finished the season with a 44-118 record, still better than the '03 Tigers. If you want to see what disappointment looks like, click here to view the current rosters batting stats. I'd suggest looking at Baez's homerun count, compare it to how many games he played, and then close the window before looking at anything else. I've gotten a 1 out of 100 in both seasons of my Astros log so far.

BREAKING NEWZ

Today in a shocking announcement, the MLB has decided that teams can no longer draft players out of high school! Their reasoning was that too many high school players try and overwork themselves to get noticed by scouts, thus setting themselves up for a higher chance of injuries down the line. (Pretty shitty reason if you ask me, but whatever) From now on, all draft eligible players must be 21 years old and/or have completed their junior year of college. The NCAA season starts March 15th, and should see a steady rise of coverage and viewers due to this rule change. Look out for players such as SP Jamie Gilbert out of Indiana, 2B Dan O'Reilly out of Clemson, and CF Max Ferguson out of Florida to be some of the first guys off the board in June.

Yeah... Best case scenario is that by the time he reaches his peak, he cuts down to only 150 a year. At least he's got that 40-20 potential, so I can overlook the strikeouts for that. It'll be even better if he can somehow become like a consistent .290 hitter
