Fifty minutes. That’s it. Gah, I should’ve worn out all these nerves last year. Okay. Fifty minutes. That’s all. New season, new players. We can do this, Ryu. We can do this!

I opened the door to the locker room.
“Alright boys,” I stood in front of the whiteboard, “game one is upon us, and it’s a big one. The Ronin are no pushovers. Let’s go over some key players before we get started.”

I popped open the red marker and got to writing.

Takurou Sakakihara - CF

While he’s primarily known for his glovework, Sakakihara is a very efficient leadoff hitter and he’s an even better basestealer. The Samurai are rumored to be looking to make a trade to make some room for him on their roster.

He’s the best hitter in the league. He struggles with lefties, so we’ll have to be weary of that.

Toyokazu Ohara - SP

19, L/L, 157 km/h (98 mph), D, B, slider - 4, changeup - 3
His explosive fastball isn’t his only weapon. His slider cuts in late on lefties, and the jarring difference in speed between his fastball and changeup help him rack up the strikeouts. I’m actually not even sure why he’s not on the NPB club yet.

This season’s as young as it can be! We’re young, too. We can bounce back. This is nothing, guys. The Ronin are a damn good team, but we’re even better. Right?!”
Kura rocketed out of his seat, knocking it over, “Hell yeah we are!”
I regained some of my composure, “Yeah. Yeah! Let’s go out and get them tomorrow!”

Very curious about how you're doing this, did you edit the rosters and enter a bunch of arrange teams, and will delete players when they get "called up"? Or does this game actually allow you to play a season with a second string team?

Their stats are what they would be in relation to second string teams :}

Some of them, though, definitely belong up with the Knights, and will surely be called up sometime soon ; ]

Let's just say there was a lot of roster editing involved (it doesn't allow second string play, unfortunately)

It is most certainly correct that I have never performed this action. I always make repeated attempts to verbalize my thoughts in the least complex of terms. One, specifically one who has received the highest education and training to make their profession a doctor of psychology, might even prescribe me with medicine for the treatment of sesquipedaliophobia.

One can never be too careful, for it is very easy to talk one's self into a corner while trying to sound more intelligent than one really is. It's also very easy to use run-on sentences in such a situation, as this may very well be. Further analysis and a formal write up shall be down, no doubt.

Those games… Could’ve gone better. Getting our asses handed to us isn’t exactly the way I want to start off the season…
I sat down on my couch and turned on the TV. Nippon Sports Now was on.
“...and we’ll go over to our guest analyst, Masato Kurihara.” One of the reporters said
Seems Kurihara’s making the move to the booth, hmm?
“Thanks, Morimoto. Yes, baseball is, pardon the pun, back in full swing! It’s looking to be another good season for the New NPB. It’s been… Wow, it’s already been 10 years. The expansion teams are finally starting to become competitive, well… save for the Foxes… and the veteran teams are back in their 20teens form. The Bears are taking everyone by storm with Shinya Imai at the helm.”
Morimoto cut in, “they’ve been shocking everyone for a few years now.”
“They really have. While they have what is ranked the worst pitching staff in the NPB on paper, they more than make up for it with a lineup filled from top to bottom with power bats.” Kurihara responded.
“I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of them give you a run for your money!”
“Hah! I invite them to try, at least.”

Morimoto chuckled, “well, thank you Kurihara.”
“Oh, no problem. Thank you for having me.”
“Of course! We’ll be right back after a short message.”

A commercial for Kura and Oda’s joint fashion line came on, very cleverly called… “KOKO”

A well-dressed young woman walked down the street, texting.
She ignores everything she walked by, including a man-sized blue lobster, a fair amount of aliens, an old woman trying to cross the street, an octopus in a business suit with a wife and children, a goat wrestling with someone, and her own mother, but… something catches her attention.

Standing aloofly on the corner of the street is none other than teenage heartthrob and Knights’ set-up man, Yuya Sugiya.

Lord, he’s a handsome man. I couldn’t help but thinking.

He was adorned in red skinny jeans and a white collared shirt covered by a beige sweater.
“Who’s that?” the girl asks the beleaguered salaryman next to her.
“That’s Yuya Sugiya, isn’t it? He’s always hanging around here.” He replied.
Sugiya struted over to the girl, “Yes. It is I, Yuya Sugiya. Do you want an autograph?”
The girl stopped to think, a large question mark popping over her head, “No.” She said, “But I want to know what brand those wonderful clothes are.”
Sugiya turned to the camera, “KOKO, the new luxury casual wear from the creative minds of Taiga Kura and Koyato Oda.”

A splash image of a stylized “KOKO” splattered the screen, along with a small message underneath, “Now available in the 109!”

Ooh, I thought, I’ll have to check it out!

We’ve got the second stringers of the Carp. Other than Ishihara, they aren’t much of a threat.

He was just drafted this past season. Though his first start didn’t exactly meet expectations, he’s still someone we can’t take lightly. We’ll be facing him in game 3 of the series.

Kensou Hirota - 3B
AGE, 2ND POSITION, B/T, TRJ, CON, POW, RUN, ARM, FLD, E RES

He’s known for his ability to hit line drives to the opposite field and his outstanding arm. He just recently made the transition from the outfield to third so they can conserve his relatively weak legs. His presence in the middle of the order is frightening.

Finally! Seems we’re in old form now. This may only be one game, but everyone seemed to click today. Hell, everyone even got a hit! After his frankly embarrassing performance last time out (2 IP, 8 R, 8 ER), Oyokawa showed why he deserves a place in the Knights organization. Hopefully this is a sign for things to come.
