Players of the month of May have been announced and we had one winner. Winning pitcher of the month, going 5-0 with a 1.76 ERA was rookie import, Anthony Creek! Congrats to him!

Shigeno Walks Off!

Image

Blue Stadium, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto – The BayStars sure didn’t make it easy for the Knights to get their 38th win of the season. In an incredibly wacky game, the Knights snagged the W from the BayStars with a walkoff homerun by the new addition to the lineup, Shigeno. “There’s no way we were going to lose. I had to hit that for Makida.” He said in his post game interview. Makida came in and blew the save, giving up a homerun to the incredible power hitter, Enokida. “He’s just like Kuri[hara],” Makida said “he’s hard to get out, you know? Goro saved me, though!"

Maeda had a no-hit bid into the 7th, where it was broken up by a double by Ma, and then he was driven in by Harper. Who was brought home by a 2-run homerun by Enokida. “I’ve been sick these past two weeks. If I weren’t I probably wouldn’t have imploded.”

Maeda Throws Shutout

Image – Maeda and Ushida

Blue Stadium, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto – Kenta Maeda has been fighting a cold for the past two weeks, yet his pitching hasn’t slowed down at all. In fact, he’s gotten his ERA down to a season-low 3.10. “I may not feel well, but the ball is really moving.” He explained.

He threw a complete game shutout against, admittedly, one of the worst hitting teams in the NPB, the Carp. ON the other side of the ball, Shinoda threw quite the game, too, letting up only 1 earned run in 8 strong innings, striking out one. The second Knights run came on a Matsunaga error. He dropped an easy fly ball that would’ve ended the inning, but instead aloud Ushida to come around from second to score. “Damn.” Was all he had to say.

Knights Take It In Eleven

Image – Mitsuo Reiza

Blue Stadium, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto – In a marathon effort, the Knights came out victorious, with Reiza coming through in the clutch once again. His effort and contribution from the bottom third of the lineup has proven invaluable to the Knights. “I just try to hit them where there aren’t any fielders. It’s working.” Reiza commented.

Makida blew yet another save, giving up the tying homerun to Sakamoto in the 9th. “I just don’t have the ‘umph’ this year.” Makida said “I need to work on my control and my top speed, you know?” His save total is a meager 6 on the year. Tonight's game will be the last for the interleague games.

Kanazawa’s Incredible Return

Image
Image – Kanazawa and Yu

Blue Stadium, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto – Takuya Kanazawa made sure that his bat was loud in his first trip back to the stadium where it all started. Kanazawa had the first steal in Blue Stadium’s history, oddly enough. And yesterday evening, Kanazawa showed his old team who was boss. Kanazawa, who was traded just a little bit under a month ago, and he’s really given the Hawks a well-needed boost, bringing them within 8 games of the ever-powerful Knights. “Oh, it was great to be back,” Kanazawa said “I’ve missed [Blue Stadium]. I really enjoyed playing here. The standing ovation wasn’t bad either, haha.”

On the other side of the ball was the struggling Jin Yu, who threw a complete game letting up 2, bringing his ERA down to a still high 6.02. “Yeah. It’s bad. I know.” Was all he had to comment.

Both pitchers the Knights received fro Kanazawa were on display in yesterday’s game. Morifuku threw an inning without letting up a run. But, Iwasaki was another story. He only got through 3.1 innings letting up 4 runs on 2 homeruns. One by Kanazawa and the other by Tsui. “It was an embarrassment to play so poorly against my former team!” Iwasaki said before taking a violent bow. Shen came in in relief and went 4.2 strong, letting up only one run.

Hey, I'm really liking those "White Knight" uniforms. Tough loss with the Hawks, though. Especially because it was Kanazawa that did most of the damage.

I wonder if they'll have guys like Nyjer Morgan, Andruw Jones, etc in the next game. Some American guys seem like they're doing pretty well over there (Jorge Sosa has a 2.04 ERA 0_0).
