Great work here, only error is that you listed Kura twice.

I thought very hard over night about which fielders to pick up. I then got another email from the Commissioner, about the pitchers.

“Jack, and Steven, these are the pitchers you can pick up, have fun.

Starters:

Riku Hirabayashi
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
17, 150 km/h (93 mph), C, A, slider – 2, shuuto – 2, changeup - 5
Bio: A fantastic pitcher, who is the youngest available player. PLUS he can really hit. (B contact, A power, 4 trajectory)
Personality: Quiet

Kusahiko Shuai
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
20, L/L, 146 km/h (91 mph), B, B, slider – 3, drop curve – 6, curve - 3
Bio: He has good life on his fastball, even though he can only throw it 146. He has good control, and can go the distance too.
Personality: Quick thinker, and somewhat conceited

Tsukiya Yamato
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
20, R/R, 150 km/h (93 mph), C, B, Hard slider – 5, SFF - 5
Bio: He was known as the “Strikeout King” in high school. And he deserves it, he has good breaking balls, and has good life on his fastball.
Personality: Never shows any personality on the mound, but off the mound he is very sociable.

Kiyoshi Atori
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
18, R/R, 144 km/h (89 mph), D, A, Circle change – 1, curveball - 7
Bio: He has one hell of a curveball, it starts at the head of right handed batters, and it’ll end up near their belt. Though his curveball is really his only weapon.
Personality: Nice, and wild.

Hiroshi Shima
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
18, L/L, 153 km/h (95 mph), E, C, slider – 1, circle change – 1 sinker - 2
Bio: He has a fantastic fastball, but that’s about it. His control is iffy, and his breaking balls aren’t very good.
Personality: He too shows no emotion on the mound. He never really shows emotion, ever.

Ichiro Hashimoto
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
18, L/L, 149 km/h (93 mph), C, A, Hard slider – 1, sinker – 4, V-slider - 1
Bio: He is strong against left handed hitters. He has fantastic stamina, and can go 11 innings if needed (he did this twice in the Koshien). He has good command, and decent breaking balls
Personality: Doesn’t really talk much, but he is very kind.

Naruki Johjima
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
18, R/R, 148 km/h (92 mph), C, B, Hard slider – 1, Circle change – 1, V-slider - 2
Bio: Jack, you’ve been following him, right? Well, Steven, he’s decent. Nothing outstanding.
Personality: Nice, and outgoing

Hideki Kawabata
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
18, L/L, 150 km/h (93 mph), C, A, sinker – 1, changeup - 2
Bio: His breaking balls are nothing to write home about, but his fastballs have good zip on them. He has fantastic stamina, and can go 9 innings no problem.
Personality: Kind, and quiet

Ataru Hiyama
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
18, R/R, 145 km/h (90 mph), C, A, 2-seam, slider – 1, sinker – 1, V-slider - 2
Bio: This guy has nothing special, but he can really pitch. Incredibly well.
Personality: Quiet, and stubborn

Kenta Takaguchi
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
18, L/R, 133 km/h (82 mph), F, B, shuuto – 5, curveball - 3
Bio: Not very good, the worst available pitcher (sorry kid)
Personality: Outgoing, and funny

Relievers:

Ikumi Koyama
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
18, R/R, 140 km/h (87 mph), D, E, slider – 3, SFF - 5
Bio: He was a closer in high school, but is willing to do whatever he can for the team
Personality: A total team player, and very kind

Makiya Sawamura
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
18, R/R, 143 km/h (89 mph), E, E, Hard slider – 1, sinker – 1, changeup - 4
Bio: Not much to say about him, he is only decent.
Personality: Very quiet

Yuu Yamaguchi
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
30, L/L, 143 km/h (89 mph), F, G, curveball - 7
Bio: Since he reached his 30’s he lost his ability to throw a good changeup. He has no stamina, and no control. A good curveball, though.
Personality: Has always led the bullpen, good leader

Shigeru Takahama
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
18, R/R, 148 km/h (92 mph), B, D, changeup – 3 sinker - 2
Bio: Takahama is a very good set-up guy, with good control, and a pretty good fastball, and pretty good breaking balls
Personality: Stubborn, but quick witted

Jun Ohtonari
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
18, R/R, 139 km/h (86 mph), C, C, slider – 2, curveball – 7
Bio: His fastball may be slow, but it is very consistent, almost always reaching 139 km/h. His curveball is fantastic as well.
Personality: Reserved

Shota Imanami
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
18, R/R, 133 km/h (82 mph), F, C, shuuto – 1, Drop curve - 7
Bio: He has a very good drop curve, but nothing on his fastball.
Personality: Mature, for his age

Michiya Sekimoto
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
22, R/R, 137 (85 mph), F, F, shuuto – 3, Drop curve - 3
Bio: He may not seem like it, but he can really get a lot of strikeouts. He is especially good against lefties.
Personality: Humble

Jiro Kanazawa
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
35, R/R, 142 km/h (88 mph), F, D, curveball - 4
Bio: A seasoned veteran on his way out of the majors. He would be a good leader in the bullpen.
Personality: Leader-like, and humble. Knows he isn’t very good any longer.

Yoshio Fujii
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
18, R/R, 139 km/h (86 mph), E, D, Hard sinker – 2, Slow curveball – 2, shuuto - 3
Bio: His breaking balls have an extra something on them, but his fastball isn’t very good.
Personality: A very intellectual thinker

Closers:

Jonny Hoashi
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
29, R/R, 150 km/h (93 mph), G, F, slider – 3, Hard slider – 1, curveball - 1
Bio: He is a great closer, and has been for 12 years, he has a great fastball, but his breaking balls are lackluster
Personality: Very humble, and knows when to stop pitching.

Sakutarou Makida
AGE, B/T, TOP SPD, CON, STAM, PITCHES
18, L/L, 148 km/h (92 mph), E, E, Drop curve – 1, V-slider – 4
Bio: He is a fantastic closer. His fastball is always at 148 km/h, and his breaking balls have good spin. He is very good against lefties, and can rack up a lot of strikeouts. He recovers fast too.
Personality: Humble, and easily swayed by opinions, but very kind

Wait, do players have personalities in this game or are you making them up? Either way, it's pretty cool.

I'm just making them up.

It'll be important later on (somewhat) since I'm planning on more player interaction. So I'll give personalities up front.

And thank you!

I would say go for Johjima, since he was featured in your last Success Mode playthrough, but I would draft Shuai, Atori, Imanami, and Makida.

I want to make the teams as balanced as possible.

But PPJ, you're pretty close to what it'll end up being in the end.

The draft will be up later today! :D

Draft Day #1 – Fielders

My brother arrived at my house at exactly the time he said he would, 13:45, he’s always been incredibly punctual.
We grabbed some coffee, put on some baseball, and started the draft.

We flipped a coin for who would pick first, and I won for both the pitchers, and fielders. (Lucky me!)

Round 1:
Knights: Masato Kurihara – C/1B
Samurais: Shuuji Arime – C
Round 2:
Knights: Takuya Kanazawa – 1B
Samurais: Daisuke Yagi – 1B
Round 3:
Knights: Goro Shigeno – OF
Samurais: Mikihiko Shimazaki – SS
Round 4:
Knights: Taiga Kura – SS/2B
Samurais: Shou Toyoda – 1B
Round 5:
Knights: Daisuke Fukuchi – 3B
Samurais: Ken Kamei – 3B
Round 6:
Knights: Hideo Nomoto – 2B/SS
Samurais: Yoshi – OF/1B/SS
Round 7:
Knights: Rikiya Terauchi – C
Samurais: Yoshitsugu Sugiya – OF
Round 8:
Knights: Tsuyoshi Matsunaga – OF
Samurais: Ikuya Suzuki – OF
Round 9:
Knights: Touya Egawa – OF
Samurais: Tadahiko Fujita – OF
Round 10:
Knights: Akitaka Shimozono – C/1B/OF
Samurais: Takara Okazaki – 2B
Round 11:
Knights: Takumi Nakahigashi – SS/3B/2B
Samurais: Daichi Suzuki – C
Round 12:
Knights: Shun Tohno – 2B/1B
Samurais: Ken Naitoh – SS
Round 12:
Knights: Daichi Suzuki - C
Samurais: Ken Wakui – 2B
Round 13
Knights: Jun Kaga – C

And thus, the fielder portion of the draft came to a close. I feel as if I was the victor, since I got lucky with some of my choices due to my brother’s short attention span. (Again, lucky me!)

My planned lineup will be:

With DH
1. Tsuyoshi Matsunaga – CF (L/L)
2. Touya Egawa – RF (R/R)
3. Takuya Kanazawa – DH (R/R)
4. Masato Kurihara – 1B (R/R)
5. Goro Shigeno – LF (R/R)
6. Daisuke Fukuchi – 3B (S/R)
7. Taiga Kura – SS (L/R)
8. Hideo Nomoto – 2B (R/R)
9. Rikiya Terauchi/Akitaka Shimozono – C (S/R and L/R)

Without DH
1. Tsuyoshi Matsunaga – CF (L/L)
2. Touya Egawa – RF (R/R)
3. Goro Shigeno – LF (R/R)
4. Masato Kurihara – 1B (R/R)
5. Daisuke Fukuchi – 3B (S/R)
6. Taiga Kura – SS (L/R)
7. Hideo Nomoto – 2B (R/R)
8. Rikiya Terauchi/Akitaka Shimozono – C (S/R and L/R)
9. PITCHER

My team seems to be the best it possibly could be, and we will be taking the Pacific League by storm this year! Just watch!

Draft Day #2 – Pitchers

My brother figured sleeping over my house would be the most sensible option for the second draft day. We started up again with some coffee, some baseball, and at 13:45.

Round 1:
Knights: Tsukiya Yamato - SP
Samurais: Riku Kirabayashi – SP
Round 2:
Knights: Sakatarou Makida – CP
Samurais: Kusahiko Shuai – SP
Round 3:
Knights: Ikumi Koyama – RP
Samurais: Ichiro Hashimoto – SP
Round 4:
Knights: Kiyoshi Atori – SP
Samurais: Hideki Kawabata – SP
Round 5:
Knights: Hiroshi Shima – SP
Samurais: Naruki Johjima – SP
Round 6:
Knights: Ataru Hiyama – SP
Samurais: Shigeru Takahama - RP
Round 7:
Knights: Jun Ohtonari – RP
Samurais: Jonny Hoashi – CP
Round 8:
Knights: Yoshio Fujii – RP
Samurais: Michiya Sekimoto – RP
Round 9:
Knights: Shota Imanami - RP
Samurais: Jiro Kanazawa – RP
Round 10:
Knights: Makiya Sawamura – RP
Samurais: Yuu Yamaguchi – RP
Round 11:
Knights: Kenta Takaguchi – SP

With me saying Kenta Takaguchi the draft was finally over! The whole draft was complete, and now the Knights have taken shape! We are more of an offensively based team, since my brother took all of the good starters in the first couple of rounds since I was going for relievers. But no matter, the rotation will be:

Starting Rotation:
1. Tsukiya Yamato (R/R)
2. Kiyoshi Atori (R/R)
3. Hiroshi Shima (L/L)
4. Ataru Hiyama (R/R)
5. Kenta Takaguchi (L/R)

Bullpen:
Ikumi Koyama (R/R)
Makiya Sawamura (R/R)
Shota Imanami (R/R)
Jun Ohtonari (R/R)
Yoshio Fujii (R/R)

Closer:
Sakatarou Makida (L/L)

I’m planning on holding a meeting to meet all of my players, and to have them meet each other, of course, on Jannuary 15th. The first game of the season is only 2 months away! We have to work hard!

January 15, 2014

I called up all of my players, one by one, and told them of the meeting we would be having at Blue Stadium, our home field, at 15:00. And little by little, the locker room filled up with young ballplayers. The first one to arrive was Kurihara, getting there 10 minutes early. I greeted him.

“Kurihara-kun, nice of you to show up early.” I said
“Thank you, Mr. Allen. I wanted to make sure I would leave the right first impression.” He responded.
“Well, I think you did just that here, take a seat.”
We sat down across from each other.
“Tell me about yourself, what are your strengths, your weaknesses?”
“Well, as you know, I am Kurihara Masato, first baseman, and catcher. I feel as if my strengths are my power, and my speed. Other then that though, I’m not fantastic.”
“I see, I see. What round do you think you were picked?”
“Not to sound conceited, but the second…?”
“Nope.”
“Third?”
“Nope.”
“Fourth?”
“No, Kurihara, you were my first choice. The first choice of the entire draft, even!”
“Wh-what?! Really?! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”
“No problem, Kurihara, you have the potential to become the most feared hitter ever, don’t let me down, clean-up man.”
“Cl-Clean-up?! Thank you sir! It’s an honor!”
He got up to leave.
“Oh, and before you go, what number would you like?”
“34, sir. It’s been my lucky number ever since I’ve been a kid.”
“You got it.”

He left to get his locker ready. I followed him back into the locker room, to see that 4 more players had arrived, Makida, Koyama, Fujii, and Kanazawa.

I called in Makida to my office first.
“So, Makida-kun, welcome to the Knights.”
“Thank you Mr. Allen. You know, I was a huge Tigers fan when you become the GM, I’ve gotta say, thank you, from all of Nishinomiya for leading the Tigers to two championships!”
“Oh, well you’re welcome! Anyways, tell me about yourself Makida, what are your strengths and weaknesses?”
“Makida Sakatarou is my name! I’m a closer, have been since the beginning of Junior High! My strengths are my fastball, and my ability to strikeout a bunch of batters! I love striking people out, you know? My weaknesses would be my poor stamina, and I’m somewhat of a pushover! Not something I’m proud of, you know? And… That’s it! Sir!”
“Well then, Makida-kun, when do you think you were drafted?”
“In the third round! Sir!”
“Close.”
“Second?!”
“Boom. Exactly. You were my second pick in the pitcher portion of the draft.”
“Thank you sir! For choosing me so early on, sir!”
“Uh… You’re welcome. Now, what number would you like, Makida?”
“19, sir! 19 is my favorite number!”
“Alright, 19 it is!”
“Thank you sir!”
“No problem, carry on. Oh, and tell Koyama to come in here.”
“Will do!”

He left to get Koyama. Man, he has a lot of energy.

Koyama entered the room, and stroked his soul patch.
“Koyama Ikumi.” Is what he said before I could even open my mouth and ask him about himself.
“Ah… Hum… It seems you can read minds Koyama-kun!” I said
“Ha ha! I guess it’s one of my special talents!”
“Guess so! So, tell me, what do you think your strengths and weaknesses are?”
“Strengths, huh? I couldn’t really say. I don’t want to sound conceited.”
“Well… You won’t though.”
“No, I will. But for weaknesses, it would have to be my poor control, and only decent fastball. But I’ll do whatever I can to help the team, in any way I can.”
“You were a closer, correct?”
“Well, yeah, in Junior High. Why?”
“Oh, just curious. How do you feel for the set-up man role?”
“I’ll do whatever, sir.”
“Perfect. You can be our set-up man.”
“If you don’t mind me asking, who is the closer?”
“Makida, you know him?”
“M-Makida?”
“You know him?”
“Know him? Every reliever knew him! He was the best in the class of 2013, no question!”
“Glad to see you think the same. Welcome to the team, Koyama.”
“Thank you sir.”
“Oh, and one more thing, what number do you what?”
“I’ll take 58 if it’s still available.”
“58, done. See you later, Koyama.”
“See you.”
“Tell Fujii to come in here, will you?”
“Yes sir, I will.”

He left for the locker room to fetch Fujii.

Fujii walked in, and adjusted his glasses before sitting down.
“Hello, Fujii-kun, how’re you doing today?” I asked him
“I’m doing very well today, Mr. Allen. How are you?”
“Fine, thank you. So, tell me, what do you think your strengths and weaknesses are?”
“Well, for a strength, I would say that it would be that I can throw a lot of pitches, and a weakness would be my poor fastball velocity.”
“Yeah, I would agree with that.”
“Uh… Thank you, I guess.”
“You’re welcome. What number would you like?”
“91, sir.”
“91? Well, alright, it’s your choice.”
“Thank you sir.”

He and I both walked back into the locker room, and I saw that everyone else had arrived.
I called in Kanazawa first, since he had arrived before the rest of the team.

We walked into my office.
“Kanazawa-kun, how’s it going?”
“It’s going good sir. What do you need to ask me?”
“Well, tell me about yourself.”
“Kanazawa Takuya is my name, I’m a first baseman, I hit for power. I’m not much of a fielder, that’s for sure.”
“I see, I see. So, Kanazawa, when do you think you were drafted?”
“H-huh? When was I drafted? Like, in which round?”
“Yes.”
“Uh… I would say something like the fifth or sixth.”
“Second.”
“Second?!”
“Yep. You were pick number 2 for me, Kanazawa.”
“Wow! Thank you! … If you don’t mind me asking, who was the first pick?”
“Uh… Well… I don’t th-”
He cut me off, “Tell me, sir”
“Kurihara…”
I knew he had an inferiority complex, and it was due to Kurihara…
“I knew it.”
“W-well, it doesn’t matter! We’re a team!”
“Yeah, I guess so.”
“What number would you like?”
“I would like 49.”
“Sounds good, Kanazawa.”

We both left for the locker, he went to his locker, next to Kurihara’s and I started calling in the rest of the team by position.
Starting with my starters.

Yamato, Atori, Shima, Hiyama, and Takaguchi walked into my office.
“Welcome you 5. You’ll be our starting rotation. Congratulations!”
“Thank you, sir!” They all said.
“Well, now, which numbers would you guys like?”
“8” said Yamato
“24” Atori said
“16” Shima said
“11” said Hiyama
“12” Takaguchi added
“Very well, you 5 can go meet with Ryan Techer, the pitching coach, his office is down the hall.”
“Yes sir.”

I then called in the rest of my relievers.

Sawamura, Ohtonari, and Imanami walked in.
“Sawamura, you’ll be a set-up man, is that alright with you?” I said
“Yes sir, that’s where I belong!” He replied
“Ohtonari, Imanami, you two will be the middle relievers.”
“Yes sir.” Ohtonari said
“Alright.” Imanami said
“Now, you three, go meet with Ryan Techer, the pitching coach.”
“ Right away sir!” They all said
And they left for Techer's office.

I then called in my catchers.

Terauchi, Shimozono, and Kaga walked in.
“Welcome, you three. Welcome to the Knights!”
“Thank you very much for drafting us!” Shimozono said for everyone.
“Yes. Thank you.” Teauchi added.
Kaga bowed, and said, “Thank you for giving me a chance, Mr. Allen.”
“You’re welcome, all of you.”
“Shimozono, Terauchi, you two will be fighting for the starting catcher bid. You both have 2 months to show me what you can do.”
“Yes sir! I’ll do my best!” Shimozono said.
Terauchi just nodded his head
“I’m sorry Kaga, but you’ll be on the bench.”
“Yes sir, I understand.” Kaga said
“Oh, by the way, what numbers would you like?”
“52!” Shimozono said
“Oh… Well then I’ll take 53…” Terauchi said.
“You want 52?” Shimozono asked
“Well… Yeah.”
“53! Sir!” Shimozono said
“I’ll take 72, sir” Kaga said
“Very well, 52, 53, and 72”

They left, and I called in my second basemen, since I had already talked to all of my first basemen

Tohno, and Nomoto walked in.
“Tohno, and Nomoto, welcome to the team!”
“Thank you for choosing me sir!” Tohno said
“It’s an honor, Jack.” Nomoto added
“The honor is all mine” I said
“What do you need, Jack?” Nomoto asked
“Well, you two, and Nakahigashi are the only ones who can second base proficiently on this team. Tohno!”
“Yes sir!”
“What number would you like?”
“76, sir!”
“Very well. You are dismissed.”
“Y-yes sir…”
Tohno left, so I could talk with Nomoto privately
“Nomoto, I would like you to be the captain of this team. You have the starting role.”
“Captain, huh? I accept.”
“Excellent. What number would you like?”
“4. I’ve never worn anything else in my life.”
“Perfect.”
With that, he left.

I then called in Fukuchi, my only third baseman.
He bowed. “Thanks.” Is all he said.
“You’re welcome, Fukuchi-kun. Now, what do you consider to be your strengths and weaknesses?
“Strength would be my fielding, weakness would be my power.”
“I’ll agree with that. What number would you like?”
“5.”
“Very well, 5 it is.”
“Goodbye, Mr. Allen.”
“Goodbye.”

He left, with the quickest interview I’ve had all day.
I called in the shortstops.

Kura, and Nakahigashi walked in.
“Welcome to the Knights, you two!” I said
“Thanks man, it’s great to here.” Kura said
“Th-thank you.” Nakahigashi added
“Nakahigashi, you’ll be our utility guy. How’s that sound?”
“Sounds good, Mr. Allen.” Nakahigashi said
“So, like, does mean I’m the starting shortstop?!” Kura asked
“Yes it, like, does.” I said
“Sweet, man! Thanks!”
“No problem, what numbers would you two like?”
“I’ll have the number 1, sir!” Kura said
“Very well, Nakahigashi, what would you like?”
“20… Sir.”
“Done. Thank you.”
“No problem man, see you later.” Kura said
“See you.”
They both left.

I called in the outfielders next.

Matsunaga, Egawa, Shigeno, and Tanaka walked in.
“I just want to say thank you for picking me up, Jack!” Shigeno quickly said.
“Well, you’re welcome. You were quite the pitcher in the MLB. And that grand slam off of Gibson? Unforgettable.”
“Thank you. I’ll do whatever I can for the team!”
“Great. What number would you like?”
“56. Since it sounds like Goro!” (Note, 56 is pronounced similar to Goro in Japanese)
“Done. You’re dismissed.”
“Yes, sir!”

Matsunaga was the next one to speak.
“He’s a dedicated one for sure. Allen, have you decide on a lineup yet?”
“Of course, why do you ask?”
“Leadoff, right?”
“Uh… Yes. You are batting leadoff actually.”
“Sweet! I would like the number 41, and I’ll see ya.”
“Uh.. Wel… O… Okay, see you Matsunaga.”

He left, and Egawa took a seat.
“Hello, Mr. Allen.”
“How are you, Egawa-kun?”
“Fine, thank you.”
“You’ll be batting second for us Egawa. Don’t let me down!”
“No sir, I won’t.”
“Number?”
“18.”
“Done.”
“Thank you.”

He left, and the last player on the team, Tanaka walked in. He was a big fellow, and the second oldest.
“How’s it going, Jack? It’s a true honor to be playing under you.”
“Thank you Tanaka. Now, you’ll be sitting on the bench, is that alright?”
“Yeah, I figured as much. I’ll help with the managing, if you need.”
“Awesome. We still haven’t hired a manager, but once we do I’ll make sure he meets with you.”
“Great. Thank you sir.”
“Oh, and what number would you like?”
“25.”
“Alright. See you.”
“Bye.”
He walked out, and I just sat at my new desk (which wasn’t as nice as the one I had when I was with the Tigers, but no matter). I thought about everything, and wondered how Steven was doing with his team.

2014 here we come!
