My sports journalism class had just ended, and as I was walking out the door, my teacher, Mrs. Camacho, called my name.
"Hey, Jack?" She said
I came back through the door, having to wait for the outward rush.
"Uh, yeah?" I eventually responded once I got back up to the desk.
"Yeah, so, we have this new option for students to study sports teams in other countries. Does that interest you in any way?"
"Well, um, yeah. Yeah, it does!"
"Okay, excellent! So, tomorrow, I'll give you all the sheets and everything, alright?"
"Sure, sounds good."
"Alrighty, see you later Jack."
As I walked out, I wondered why I was the only one she had told, but I paid no mind to it. I went back to my dorm, and saw Kevin in the hall. He was in his suit, as he normally is. The strange thing, though, was that he had 2 suitcases.
"Hey Kev, where you off to?"
"Oh, hey, Jack. I'm heading home to Japan for a little while. I got a job offer I simply couldn't refuse. I'll be interning with someone named... Uh... what was it? Hold on, let me check..."
He checked a sheet of paper he had in his hands, "Ryuuichi Naruhodou. That's his name."
"Oh, cool. I guess I'll be seeing you, then, Kev."
"Alrighty, see you later, Jack!"
And with that, Kevin ran off. And I went into my room to write an essay.

Upon Mrs. Camacho's suggestion, I stayed after class was over.
"Alrighty, Jack, so, here are your options." She showed me 3 sheets of paper. I could choose to observe some soccer in Italy, baseball down in Mexico, or baseball in Japan. "Which one do you think interests you most?"
I thought long and hard about it, and once I got to thinking about how Kevin was going over to Japan I thought about his tea, and Japanese culture in general. Japan became my most desired choice.
"Japan, I would say."
"So, Japan, eh? I've never been, but I hear that it's absolutely beautiful! Anyways, you'll be following around the Hanshin Tigers. They've really been horrible as of recent."
"Oh, uh, alright. So, what's my assignment?"
"All you've got to do is write a column about them, and then send it over to a translator. We've got him all set up already, his name is Ibuki Kinjoh. You'll be leaving in a week, so get your things all ready, alright?"
"Alright! Thank you very much, Mrs. Camacho!"
"No problem, Jack."

I left her room, Japan flyer tight in hand, and walked on back to my dorm. I, of course, was going to tell Kevin about the news. But, he was gone.
"Oh well," I thought, "maybe I'll see him over there."

My flight was for 6:30, which is just an ungodly hour. My flight from LAX was going to land in Tokyo. It would be a 10 hour flight, and since Japan is 26 hours ahead of us in California, I would be landing at 8:30 PM February 20...

I heard my flight called over the PA system, and moved on over to my gate. I flashed my ticket to the woman at the desk, and walked onto my plane. When I sat down, there were two people right next to each other, right behind me. "They have to be a couple." I thought to myself. Unfortunately for them, though, the woman had a seat next to me, and the man two rows up. "Hm... I should give up my seat, I mean, that would just be the right thing to do, right? Yeah. Yeah." I thought to myself again.

I stood up, "Uh, excuse me, sir. Sir?" The man looked back "Uh, hi, yeah, so do you want to sit here... You know, next to your girlfriend. We could switch seats, I mean, yeah, it's fine with me. So, you know, we could switch if you want."
He looked back at me with a dead stare, "Uh, sir... Well, um... We're not a couple."
Shit.
I sat back down, my cheeks aflame with redness, and my hair on-end. The woman glanced at me.
It was just then that I noticed that I had assumed that the two black folks were in a relationship...
And what was even worse was that I had to sit next to this woman for 10 hours...

Maybe I should go to sleep...

This 26 hour time difference is most certainly not good for my health. I haven't been able to sleep at normal times for the whole week that I've been here. Jet lag is not your friend.
Well, since it was really around noon back in California, I was, naturally starving. And, luckily for me, there just so happened to be a convenience store down the street where I was staying.

I got a pre-made sandwich, which at the time of purchase looked good, but upon further inspection, it didn't look so great. Hell, I didn't even know what it was. But, I was starving, so I didn't mind.
I walked out of the automatic door to a "ding." And started walking back to my hotel. While I was walking back, I noticed a dauntingly dark alley. "Hunh, that alley sure is dark." I thought to myself. I continued on to my hotel.
*BANG*
"WHA-"
*BANG BANG*
"Wha... What was that...?"
A man came running out of the alley I just walked by, threw a gun to me, which I caught, and then screamed: "THIS MAN JUST SHOT SOMEONE!"
The owner of the convenience store came out with his standard order "Convenience store owner shotgun" held in his hand. He pointed it at me.

"Well, shit." I thought to myself.
"Call the police." The owner said to the killer

The police came, and took me away.
...How did this happen...
