I guess that means Kurihara can't play catcher anymore, unless you have another 1B.

Kuri's always been the first baseman, Kanazawa DH'd

"Yes."
"Yes, he should be there by tonight."
"You're welcome."
"Thank you."
"Bye."

I hung up with the Hawks' GM and had the trade officially finalized.
I'm not entirely sure that any trade has gone all the way through so quickly.
"Shoot," I thought "now I have to break the news to Kanazawa."

I walked down to the clubhouse and saw that a few players were already there getting ready.
Kanazawa was one of them.

"Hey, uh, Kanazawa, could I talk to you for a second?"
He looked up, "Hm? Oh, yes sir."
I walked him out to the hallway.
"Uh, so, you aren't going to be starting tonight."
"Okay. But, why are you telling me this, sir?"
"Well, uh... Jeez, how do I say it? You won't be starting here anymore."
"Uh. What?"
"You're going to the Hawks, kid."
Ooh, perhaps 'kid' was too informal.
"T-the Hawks? I'm t-traded?" He averted his eyes and started fidgeting.
"Er, uh, yeah. Yeah. But hey, hopefully you'll be able to help the Ha-"
He looked at me with his eyes aflame
"Who?"
"What?"
"Who was I traded for?"
"M-Masahiro Morifuku and Sho Iwasaki." I moved back a few steps as I told him
"...Good." he said in a whisper "Thank you for the opportunity, Allen. You have my utmost respect." He bowed
"Well, you're welcome, Kanazawa. Thank you for all that you've done for the team."
"I shall prove to be a worthy opponent in Fukuoka, Allen." He smiled "Don't go easy on me."
"Hahah! Don't worry, kid. I wouldn't dream of it."
I slapped him on the shoulder and he went back into the locker room
I heard the "aww"s and "whaaat"s from the team, but Kanazawa was beaming with a confidence I've never seen.
Perhaps this trade was for the best.

17:02

Morifuku and Iwasaki had arrived via taxi and I welcomed them in.
"Nice of you to join us." I said to them

When we got into the clubhouse, all eyes were staring intently in our direction.
Iwasaki violently bowed
"I'm Sho Iwasaki!"
Morifuku followed up with a wave, "Masahiro Morifuku"
"It's an honor to meet you all!" Iwasaki yelled

Welcome to the team, you two.

Iwasaki will be starting tomorrow's game against the Dragons.

Seems he's still upset with me...

Iwasaki Impresses in Debut

Image - Masato Kurihara
Image

Nagoya Dome, Nagoya – In a trade that was either incredibly brief or incredibly hush-hush, the Knights acquired starter Sho Iwasaki and reliever Masahiro Morifuku in exchange for star DH, Takuya Kanazawa. “I have no comment on the trade.” Kensou Mori said after the game “Rather, let’s focus on Iwasaki’s strong performance.”

Mori wasn’t kidding. Iwasaki really impressed in his debut, going 7 strong innings, letting up only one run and striking out four. “I didn’t overwhelm any of the hitters, but I was hitting the marks Shimozono set up. I hope I can be of great service to this team in the future!” Iwasaki said in a press conference.

Iwasaki’s great performance aside, the Knights’ bats really lit up last night. Knocking 13 hits and driving in 8 runs. This was in large part because of the strong game the struggling Taiga Kura had, going 3-5 with 2 homeruns and 6 RBI. “I guess shaving off the goatee helped, huh?”

Guess so, Kura. Thanks.

Former Knights Shine

Image – Ohtonari and Asao

MAZDA Zoom-Zoom Stadium Hiroshima, Hiroshima – Earlier this year, the Knights and the Carp made a blockbuster move, sending over 5 players in exchange for the pitching great, Kenta Maeda. The trade has been working well for both sides of the coin, as evidenced by yesterday’s game. The Carp, primarily Jun Ohtonari, a former Knight, shutdown the Knights, keeping them to 5 hits and 1 run in yesterday’s campaign.

“It felt good to beat them.” Outfielder Tsuyoshi Matsunaga said about his former team, he went 1-4 with a double and an RBI. “I don’t miss Kyoto. I do miss winning, though.” He has been fairly vocal about his dislike of the Carp, but he’s proven to be one of their most productive players.

Fujita can’t seem to catch a break, as the Knights were unable to provide any run support for him. By all means, his performance wasn’t a bad one, as he went 7 strong, striking out 3 and letting up 3. “Maybe I’m just unlucky. My ERA is in the mid-4s, though, so maybe I’m just bad.” With this loss, his record falls to a meager 2-5.

Fujita won the Rookie-of-the-Year award 2 years ago, and has struggled since. Will he turn it around?

Hiyama Shutout/Kurihara Scare

Image - Fukuchi and Hiyama

MAZDA Zoom-Zoom Stadium Hiroshima, Hiroshima – Hiyama threw a gem, going all the way and letting up only 3 hits in the process. It also brought his ERA down from 4.77 to a more reasonable 4.26. “Any ERA in the 4’s isn’t something to be proud of,” he said “but, I’m glad it’s starting to drop.”

The Knights were tasked with facing their former ace, Tsukiya Yamato, and he didn’t disappoint, as he went 7 strong and let up only 1 run which was the result of a passed ball and two groundouts. With this loss, Yamato falls to 0-5. "Gah, the record's nothing," he said “I loved facing the guys,” Yamato chuckled “I really wanted to get Kurihara out. That’s always been one of my goals. Hey, speaking of Kurihara, is he alright?”

‘Is he alright’ is a very good question. In the bottom half of the 8th, Kurihara took a dive for a foul ball but didn’t end up catching it. After the dive, he didn’t get up. Oda and Hiyama rushed over to see if he was alright and had to help him to his feet. Manager Mori came out and removed Kurihara from the game. “I, along with all of Kyoto, held my breath. I assumed the worst. Maybe a broken rib or something like that, I thought. Thank god. Thank god it’s nothing serious.” Mori said after the game.

“Yeah, I just hit the ground awkwardly, knocked the wind out of me. I’m really glad that I’m okay. I don’t want to disappoint the fans or my team.” Kurihara added

Dude I told you to trade Kuri away. It's only going to get worse from here.

The Stranglers are now open to discussion for any possible trades.

This is big. We've got the Samurais in town. Mikihiko Shimazaki has overtaken Kurihara in homeruns, 37 to 36, and he's still batting over .400. This is truly incredible. Stephen's really done a good job with his team.

Also, Shen will be making a spot start for Maeda, who's feeling under the weather today. Hopefully his new shaved head will prove to be good luck.

Shen Comes Through

Blue Stadium, Sakyō-ku, Kyoto – The Knights beat the Samurais in last night’s game, a feat which has only been done 10 times prior, so it’s nothing to scoff at. The final score of the game was 5-0, the first time that the Knights have shutout the Samurais, and it was mostly thanks to the newly shaven Jian Shen. “My ERA is still 6.70. This game was good, but not good enough.” He was quoted as saying. It’s true, though, that his ERA is now 6.70. That may not sound so great, but considering it was 7.99 at the start of the game, it’s a huge improvement.

Kurihara was a big part of the win, driving in 4 of the 5 runs with 2 homeruns, both of the 2-run quality. “I was seeing Johjima’s pitching real well.” Was all he had to say. The other run came off the bat of the new fulltime DH, Goro Shigeno, who hit his first homerun in the 3rd. “It’s good to be back in the lineup!” He went 3-4.

In the top half of the 9th, Shen ran into trouble letting runners reach 2nd and 3rd with no outs. He was pulled and new addition, Masahiro Morifuku was called in for relief. He got Aoyama to ground out, but Shimazaki was due up next. “I thought about walking him.” He said in a press conference, “but I’m glad I didn’t.” Shimazaki hit a sinking liner to left and Ushida made an incredible diving catch and threw out Yagi, who was already at 3rd to end the game! “Good thing I caught it, or else I would look pretty foolish.”

Dude I told you to trade Kuri away. It's only going to get worse from here.

The Stranglers are now open to discussion for any possible trades.

I'll trade Kuri for the entirety of the Stranglers

"Yes. Came into the league last season, but they're already one of the best. Their first baseman, Kurihara, is the best power hitter in Japan. I'm glad I don't have to face him here."
"Hm. Matt, you should get him to join the Gunmen," said Evan.

Little did everyone know that it was actually elaborate foreshadowing.

To we should have a three way crossover.

Also, PPFan. How about Kuri for Jack Merluzzi? If not, then I suppose I accept your previous offer.
