A Deserved Loss

Kobe Sports Park, Suma-ku, Kobe – Due to Koshien Stadium having maintenance being done right now, the Tigers have taken home to Kobe. It isn’t the same, apparently. Young pitcher, Moriyama, was starting today, and he ran into early trouble giving up a 2-run shot to right to shortstop Tsuyoshi Nishioka. They would get 1 run back with a homerun by Tani in the 3rd. The Tigers couldn’t capitalize on any run scoring opportunities. Like in the 5th, Moriyama and Abe are walked consecutively. Tigers have 2 on, no outs, and they can’t get anything. And then in the 8th, they have bases loaded, and no outs, and they can’t get anything.

Manager Akinobu Miyumi stated “We were outplayed, plain and simple. We couldn’t score with runners in scoring position, and if it weren’t for Tani, we wouldn’t have gotten any runs.”

Marines catcher, Masahiko Tanaka went 5-for-5 with 4 doubles and an RBI.

A Poor Start to May

Seibu Dome, Tokorozawa, Saitama – The Tigers, for the second game in a row, were outplayed. This time by the Seibu Lions. They struck first, once again, with an RBI double by Kurose in the 1st inning. In the 2nd, they would score on a sacrifice fly by Gotoh. And in the 3rd Nohmi would give up back-to-back homeruns to Nakamura, and Nakajima. Those 4 runs would be all the Lions would get, and all they would need. As the Tigers would only score 2 runs of their own. 1 of which coming from Kanemoto (in his first game played this season), and the other coming from a 9th inning, 2-out homerun by Ryo Katuski. Too little, too late.

But in positive news, fan favorite Kazuteru Tani won the Player-of-the-Month Award for May, batting .389, with 10 homeruns and 26 RBIs! “It is a great honor to win this award. どうもありがとうございました ! (thank you very much!)." Tani said.

And also, rumors have been going around that Wada and Toritani/Saito are going to be removed from the lineup. In place of them would either be Kyo Murata, or Aaron Robles. Only time will tell.

I received a call, it was 20,34.
It was from an agent, he said he was representing someone named Jonathan Abe, and that he wished to me before the start of our next game.
So, I agreed to it. Making sure he knew that the other player would be there.
He knew.

June 27, 2013

I headed down to the field earlier then usual, to meet with this man. I saw the players getting warmed up, and psyched up for the game. I accidentally bumped into Kiyoshi Abe while I was walking.
"Oh, I'm so sorry Mr. Allen, you alright?" He said
"What? Yeah, I'm fine, don't even worry about it."
"Alright, please, excuse me, I have to go get ready for the game."
"By all means."
He was walking away, when it hit me. Kiyoshi said he had a brother. A brother who was a pitcher.
I called out to him.
"Hey! Abe-san!"
He turned around, "Yes, Mr. Allen"
"Please, call me Jack."
"Uh. Alright, Jack. What do you need?"
I wanted to ask this in a roundabout way, since I wasn't sure if it was his brother or not.
"I'm meeting with a young pitcher today."
"Oh yeah? Wait. Why today, there isn't any signing opportunities right now or anything."
"I know. His agent called me last night. I figured that since he is a pitcher, you might want to meet him, and get acquainted with him, before he makes the team. IF he makes the team."
"Sure, sure. What's his name?"
"Know anyboday by the name of Jonathan Abe?"
He froze. His jaw dropped. I guess it was his brother after all.
"J... J... Jonathan... Abe?"
"Yeah, you know him? Since you guys have the same name I thought you might know him."
"Where is he meeting you?"
"In my office. They said they would be here a-"
He ran off to my office, and I followed him.
Coincidentally, Jonathan was walking down the same hall to my office.
"Jonathan!" Kiyoshi screamed
The kid turned around, and dropped his folder containing some sort of papers.
"K... Kiyoshi?! Is that you?!"
They hugged. It was one of those brotherly hugs, you know the ones when you haven't seen your brother in a long time? That kind of hug.
"Kiyoshi! I thought you were never going to be able to play baseball again!" Jonathan said
"I thought you were in the MLB?"
"Well, it fell through, I got drafted by the Diamondbacks, but never signed. Bummer, huh? But regardless, I thought that accident did you in! What ever happened to that scouting job?"
"I didn't get it. Hell, I didn't even really want it anyways. So I trained, and trained."
"So... you can use your arm again?"
"Absolutely! My right arm has made a full recovery from the compound fracture, and broken shoulder. I learned how to bat left-handed, and I have reprized my role as a catcher!That guy who hit us, did he ever apologize?"
"Uh... Kind of, he said he didn't see us. Even though it was the middle of the day, and it was sunny, and we were in a crosswalk."
"That jerk. He ruined us. We were the best in the Koshien!"
The Koshien? WE?
"Wait a second," I said "Kiyoshi, you're THAT Kiyoshi Abe? The one they said would never play again, the one who was the best damn catcher in the Koshien in 2007? And you're Jonathan? The starter turned closer who threw 14 innings of shutout ball, with 217 pitches I may add, one day, and then a 2 hitter the next? And then as a closer threw 97, and saved 5 games? YOU'RE THOSE TWO?!"
I was in shock. I had just stumbled upon the best battery in the high school circuit in the past 30 years.
"Jonathan. We will talk contract options now, but I can't sign you until the draft, you know that, right?"
"Yes sir, I do."

We went up to my office, I WILL be signing this kid come the draft.

A Very Good Offensive Day

MAZDA Zoom-Zoom Stadium Hiroshima, Minami-ku, Hiroshima – Both the Tigers, and the Carp scored a large amount of runs in yesterday’s game. The Carp were the first to score a run, with an RBI double by Akamatsu, and Kurihara added onto that with a sacrifice fly. But the Tigers would start their comeback, with Ryo hitting a solo homerun in the second. But the third was when the game really started to get out of hand. First off, Wada ties the game up with an RBI single, and then Tani hits a 3-run homer to give the Tigers a 5-2 lead, then Toritani hits a homerun of his own, and THEN Ryo hits his second homerun of the game! Back-to-back-to-back homeruns!

The Carp still weren’t out of it yet, as they tied it back up in the 5th, with a 2-run homerun by Kurihara. That lead wouldn’t last for very long, with Wada giving the Tigers the lead, again. And they wouldn’t look back from there. Right after Wada, Tani is intentionally walked, and Toritani proceeds to hit a 3-run homerun to center (his second of the game, and 9th of the year).

And in the 7th, Fumihiko Saito is the last batter in the lineup to record a hit. Everyone in the lineup (even the pitchers) had a hit in yesterday’s game.

Uezono will be out for 3 days with elbow pains.

About an hour and a half after I had gotten off of the phone with my family in America talking about how spectacular the fireworks were, I got a call.
I picked up my phone and received terrible news.
The Owner just had a heart attack and is now in the hospital receiving addition treatment.
I rushed down to the Hyogo Prefectural Nishinomiya Hospital where he was staying.
He was still in treatment when I arrived. I saw Mayumi there, along with Todd, Preston, Mark, Bryan, and Ryan, and the rest of the staff from the office.
I asked the nurse at the desk how he was, “He should live, we’re just going to do some tests to see how he is now, and what the cause may have been.” She said.
“Oh, thank God. Thank you, nurse.” I said
“You’re welcome, Mr. Allen.”
I waited in the waiting room with the crew for a painful 2 hours until he was ready to be visited.
I went in the room first,
“Sir! Thank God you’re alright. Wh-What happened?”
“I’m not sure, Jack. I was just working, going over some players for the draft… And then I felt a sharp pain in my left arm. And next thing I knew, I was in a hospital.”
“Well, sir, at least at this point you’re okay.”
By then Todd, Preston, and Mark had walked in.
“God, sir. You sure gave us all a scare there.” Preston said.
“Yeah. I was really worried there for a second!” Todd followed.
“Sir… It’s… A… Uh… Good thing… You’re alright…” Mark (still as apprehensive as ever) said.
We were asked to leave the room, since they weren’t done with him.
But right before I left the room he said to me, “Jack, my brother-in-law is going to take over the team. Be careful, he’s a nasty one.”
“Yes sir, I will. Thank you.”
He nodded, and I left the room.

July 7, 2013

Well, even with that, I was back at the office. I met with the Owner’s brother-in-law, and welcomed him to the team.
He responded with, “Ppbth. Thanks, I suppose.”
I guess he is nasty. I was going to give him the benefit of the doubt, but not after that.
I flipped on the news, and the sports section was on.
“The Tigers owner has recently had a heart attack. He is expected to be fine, thankfully. In other news, fan favorite, Kazuteru Tani has announced that after just 4 years playing in Japan, he is going to go the United States and play in the MLB. His contract has been bought by the Detroit Tigers, we hope him well!

Also, there will be 2 new teams entering the NPB, The Kyoto Knights, and The Sakai Samurais. The Knights are still on the hunt for office members, including a General Manager, a Senior Advisor, and a Scout or 2. The Samurais on the other hand, have just hired a GM, Steven Allen, the brother of our GM, Jack.

‘Oh, it’s awesome to be here, and to be a GM?! Sweet! Maybe I’ll be able to play my brother’s team, the Tigers. It would be an epic matchup indeed’ Steven said. We wish him and his Samurais luck! He, and whoever the GM of the Knights ends up being, will participate in a special draft with a pool of pre-determined players come the end of the year.”
What?! My brother, Steven, the goofball, is the GM of a new team? Wow. Awesome!

Oh, and that’s right! Tani was going to the MLB come the end of the year. I hear that Tomochika Nakazawa, and Aaron Robles will also be going over to America to play baseball, Nakazawa going to the Mariners, and Robles to the Rays.
All three of them, I believe, have the potential to be stars!

I was called into the new owner’s office.
I saw Preston leaving the room looking somewhat sad.
“Jack, close the door.” He said as I walked in.
“You’re fired Jack.”
“Wait. What?”
“You didn’t hear me. Here, let me say it nice and slow. You… Are… Fired… Jack… Allen.”
“Why?! Why would I get fired?! I led this team to 2 championships!”
“Yeah. Well, having so many Americans in the office is bad for the image of the team, you know what I mean?”
“N-No. Todd, Preston, Mark, Bryan, Ryan and I have all received nothing but positive press since we got here!”
“Well, I’m making over the team, and I’m bringing back some players you’ve stupidly gotten rid of.”
“That makes NO sense! What about all the kids on the team now, huh? What are you going to do about them?”
“Release them.”
“WHAT?!”
“Get out of my office, you don’t work here any more, Mr. Allen.”
I left, and made sure I slammed the door on my way out.

I sat down at my desk, for the last time, smothered my face in my arms, and just thought of all I would be leaving. The Tigers, my friends, my players, Nishinomiya, everything. I contemplated crying. But just them, I remembered,
“Also, there will be 2 new teams entering the NPB, The Kyoto Knights, and The Sakai Samurais. The Knights are still on the hunt for office members, including a General Manager, a Senior Advisor, and a Scout or 2.”
The Knights shall be my savior!
I walked down to Preston’s office, told him and Mark about it. They agreed to join me.
I asked Ryan and Bryan to join as well, they too agreed.
The Kyoto Knights shall be the future team to beat!

So, how did you guys like the log?

It was a good run, and a long one too, 11 months (almost exactly to the day)!
I'm sad to be leaving my Tigers (I'll miss playing as them, for sure), but the Knights will be fun, I'm sure!

I followed, even before I became a member here. I have to say it was one of the best ones on here. Very well-written, especially the dialogue. Sad to see it go as well, but looking forward to the story of the Knights!
