May 2012 May 1 I was unable to sleep last night. It's good that I don't have a game again today. My "father" had just called me out of the blue. I hadn't spoken to or seen my father in 8 years. Not since we buried him. I had habitually visited his grave every weekend since this past year after I moved. And now he calls me. I can't believe this. I decided to take him up on his offer and drove down to his office, which wasn't too far from where I lived. I walked into the building, which contained 3 doors, which I presume all led to certain offices. There was a plaque next to his door, it read Mikihisa Nishijima. Which was, in fact, my father's name. As I opened the door, the world seemed to move in slow motion. Thoughts rushed through my mind, could he possibly be alive? When the door opened all the way, I saw a man passed out in his chair, bottles of beer everywhere you looked, and there was a horrible smell. He raised his head, his eyes glassy and his hair messy, "Ah, Masumi." ...It was him. Why did it have to be him? "What is this?" "What do you mean?" "What do you mean 'what do you mean'?! This place is a shithole! I mean, for God's sake, I thought you were dead! I went to your grave every weekend and bawled my eyes out. What the hell?!" "Masumi, listen," he stood up and showing his tattered, ripped shirt. "it's great to see you, boy." He smiled at this. A small smile, that, if I weren't so enraged, looked so pure and happy. He put his hand on my shoulder "Don't you dare touch me, you piece of garbage. Here I was thinking that you were dead. And then, outta nowhere, I get a call. From you. You're alive! Hooray. I thought. So, I come down here, and am met by this? Why did you call me?" "Listen, Masumi... I need some money, I was in some ba-" "Are you *(censored)* kidding me?!" "I was with some bad folks, and I need some m-" "No. No! I'm leaving. You give the Nishijima name shame, father." I trudged to the door, all the while my father pleading for me to stay. "There's a snowball's chance in hell that I'll help you." I said to him "Masumi!" I got in my car and drove off. When I got home, I collapsed onto my bed and laid there, staring at the ceiling. That bastard. |
