June 2009:
Well, I've been traded away again, seems the Pirates just weren't satisfied with my performance in the minors, at the time of the trade I batted around .200 with 6 steals, 9 RBIs, and 2 home runs. None of my home runs would have probably even come close to home runs in MLB ballparks, but they still feel amazing to hit, and I remember each one of them. Anyway, the good news is, I've been traded to the Royals. I know what you're thinking, who wants to play for the Royals? The key here is that the Royals aren't very good, and, even though Grudzielanek is a pretty tough second baseman to compete with, he's been struggling so far this year, batting .240. I got injured in my first game with the AAA Royals, but, before I could even heal, I was called up to the MLB level, I was very anxious to heal and see what I could do. If I get a few lucky hits off the bench who knows how much it could further my career. By the end of the month, I have been given 3 pinch hitting opportunities, I got my first major league hit in one of them, a single, of course. I was caught eagerly trying to steal second. My presence on the bench seems to motivate the team, we've won all three games I've been on the bench for and we're carrying a 3 game win streak into July. I'm so excited, but I'm just as nervous.

Just curious, what is it like to play in AAA?

No announcer, no extra innings, no finding out what your teammates stats are, no all star game, no playoffs, pretty much nothing except the actual games.

But every day you get off you get to practice.

It's quite good.

July 2009:
Well, it seems like any hopes I have of being a regular position player pretty much anywhere are gone. Grudzielanek is still struggling, hitting .227 at the end of the month. Even so, it seems ridiculous to even hope to take his spot for even one game. Lately I've been shipped back and forth between AAA and MLB, at least I get to start in AAA. For the year I'm only hitting .115 at the MLB level, I can't be sure if it's because I'm genuinely that unskilled or if I just can't get enough playing time to come anywhere near any sort of rhythm. I got my first good hit in the majors this month, a triple, I was sure it was going to be caught like every ball I hit in the air, I was already getting ready to head back to the bench when it hit the ground and I had to start running again. I can't tell what's wrong with my speed, all the scouts and announcers seem to agree I'm one of the fastest guys in the league, but I couldn't get an infield base hit no matter where I hit it. I've been caught stealing on a low 75 mph breaking ball by one of the worst throwing catchers in the league before, I can't come near a .500 stealing percentage in any league. I've bought a book hoping it would have some advice, but nothing has helped. I finished the month in AAA.
