MLB Experience: 9 years

A great scouting quote, pitch-by-pitch from 2005 when he was on the O's:
Quote:
The scouting report on Bruce Chen: Throws a four-seam fastball that moves well, with a big curve. Oddly, there's no mention of his change-up, which as we soon learn is his bread-and-butter pitch. The report also notes that he "must travel light," given this is his ninth different organization in pro ball. Aside from the question of whether or not that's a scout's call, Chen comes into this game looking like a new pitcher. In 59 innings pitched, he's got a strikeout-to-walk ratio rate of about 2.5 to 1, his best figure in five years, with a 3.51 ERA. Though he's still a flyball-to-neutral pitcher susceptible to home runs--his career-long bugaboo--Chen has learned to change speeds and locations effectively, keeping hitters off balance better than he has in the past. It's almost as if, five years after leaving the Braves, the tutelage of Leo Mazzone and the example of Tom Glavine, he's just now having his delayed reaction, going away, away, away with his change and befuddling hitters, like Glavine in his prime.

You can see the new Chen from the get-go. Working to Inge, he throws a sinker at 81 mph taken for strike one, then a high fastball at 84 to even the count. He works the outside corner with another fastball at 84, inducing a very late swing by Inge, who seems to be looking off-speed given the new junk-balling scouting report on Chen. On 1-2, Chen takes a few miles off a curve for the punchout. He starts Martinez with a change-up called for a strike at the belt. Chen then moves the hitter's eyes, throwing a big, bending curve that drops for strike two. He moves the plane again with high, inside fastball fouled off for strike two. Chen then snaps off an even bigger curve--a 73-mph yakker that makes the Camden Yards faithful go "ooooh...aahhh" mid-pitch--for called strike three. Against Dmitri Young, Chen throws all change-ups, except for one fastball at 88 where Chen visibly has to exert himself just to get that high.

So this leads me to think:
max speed: 88mph - 90mph
ctrl: 120-130?
Stam: high C?
Curve 3
Changeup 2?
Slider 1?
sinker 1?

FranGraphs has cutter/2-seamer info too...im going to scout around for better intel.

Fat pitch would probably be one attribute I would give him

I'm curious though, has anyone ever managed to get fat pitch? And how?

Sure, I've gotten it plenty of times. Haven't been able to get it in games, but I get it in random events, talking to Marvin and giving a goofy answer.

It's tough to get on command, but I'll work it out.

Also on siitch's first training if you guess the wrong siitch you can get it randomly. I also just pitch straight down the middle particularly to Jonathan, and the middle of the Gigantes team in year 2.

Still trying for fat pitch. My favorite is the Marvin, when he asks about life being a video game...but I haven't got the lead-in.

I need help on Chen's pitche s- I have CB 2, and CHG 2 right now. I can add:

sld 1, snk 1

Or, I can boost CB up to 3, as well.

OR, I can add sld 1, snk 1, and then add a DCB or SCB? The scouting reports mention Chen having different angles or speeds of CB...maybe giving him 2, like Fossum, wouldn't be so bad?

EDIT: so I took the time to lookup Chen in MLB Power Pros 2007. Here's the stats:

ctrl: C (148)
Stam: C (109)
CB 2
CHG 2
SLD 2
Cut 1
top speed 92
vs runner 2
groundball p

fld 8
e res 9
arm 10

So I have my answer! Still, Fat Pitch would be better.

And the bad news: I just got w/RISP 4, and saved. :( That might not reflect Chen at all.

Early in the game if you go to the vicinage (obviously when Lucy isn't there) you see marvin which leads it off.

If you can do sittch's events on the third one where you choose what glove you've lost choose the first option (gold glove) which takes away your current W/RISP level thus your level 4 would revert back to 3

I already started the Marvin/vicinage arc, but it seems to have died after the first one. You don't get a choice until the 2nd. For some reason, the second one never comes around.

I also already got the glove - needed the +1mph of the Ace Stud.

So I may be stuck with RISP/4...but I'm boosting eval thru the roof so I can leave pitches down the middle in AAA like you said.
