APRIL IN REVEIW

Division Standings:

Dodgers 17-10 .630 ---
GIANTS 18-11 .621 0GB
Padres 13-15 .464 4.5GB
Diamondbacks 12-16 .429 5.5GB
Rockies 12-17 .414 6GB

Obviously nobody is out of it and quite frankly, nobody in the division had a stand-out month.

NO goals acheived

Divisional stats
Best.....

ERA:
1. Dodgers 4.10
2 Diamondbacks 4.25
3. GIANTS 4.35
4. Padres 4.39
5. Rockies 4.67
Pretty tight race here.

Runs allowed (as in what team's pitching staff gave up the least runs)
1. Dodgers 119
2. Diamondbacks 122
3. GIANTS 129
4. Padres 129
5. Rockies 141
Again pretty tight, although the Rockies are falling behind.

Hits allowed (as in what team's pitching staff allowed the least hits)
1. Dodgers 241
2. GIANTS 242
3. Rockies 268
4. Diamondbacks 269
5. Padres 275

HR allowed (as in what team's pitching staff allowed the least HR)
1. Dodgers 18
2. Diamondbacks 26
3. GIANTS 30
4. Padres 30
5. Rockies 36

Strike-Outs
1. GIANTS 260
2. Diamondbacks 224
3. Rockies 209
4. Dodgers 202
5. Padres 185

Walks allowed (as in what team's pitching staff allowed the least walks)
1. GIANTS 76
2. Dodgers 97
3. Padres 98
4. Diamondbacks 106
5. Rockies 122

As you can see, the Dodgers own probably the best pitching staff so far in NL West. But when it comes to strike-outs and walks allowed, the Giants absolutely dominate. The Diamondbacks also seem to have a good pitching staff, as they consistenly made rank 2. Considering their record, it must be hitting that's losing them ball games. The Padres also seem to have an alright pitching staff as they have about the the same ERA, Runs allowed, and HRs allowed.

Team Hitting:
Best...

Avg.:
1. Rockies .292
2. Dodgers .291
3. GIANTS .270
4. Diamonbacks .254
5. Padres .247

Runs scored
1. Dodgers 171
2. Rockies 139
3. GIANTS 128
4. Diamondbacks 109
5. Padres 108

Hits:
1. Rockies 307
2. Dodgers 289
3. GIANTS 274
4. Diamondbacks 250
5. Padres 241

HR:
1. Dodgers 42
2. Rockies 29
3. Diamondbacks 24
4. GIANTS 23
5. Padres 18

Sac Hit/Fly
1. GIANTS 22
2. Padres 21
3. Rockies 9
4. Diamondbacks 8
5. Dodgers 7

Stolen Bases:
1. Dodgers 25
2. GIANTS 22
3. Padres 17
4. Rockies 16
5. Diamondbacks 13

As you can see from both hitting and pitching, the Dodgers seen to win it out. Also, by looking at Sac hit/fly you'll see that we play alot of small ball. We basically finished in the middle of the pack in the hitting categories. You can also see that the Rockies are great offensively, but the pitchers just can't hold the lead.

INTERLEAGUE PLAY HAS STARTED!

The first series of interleague has started, and the Giants are doing excellent in their first series (Home).

I've kind of rushed through May, haven't post many games up, but I'm keeping the updates high.

SERGIO ROMO SENT DOWN TO AAA BRANDON MEDDERS TAKING HIS PLACE

He's just not performing... 0-4 with a 6.21 ERA. Manager Bruce Bochy had to say this:

Quote:
He needs to be sent back to AAA to get his confidence and command back.

Keiichi Yabu was injured last game, he will be gone for about 1 week, Rookie Fernando Hernandez will be taking his place.

Brian Bocock has been demoted from AAA to AA.

I have a small question, how do you determine AAA stats. I know that there aren't any real AAA stats but do you just throw numbers out there for Ruggiano

This game would be so much better with AA and real AAA + AA stats

GIANTS AQCUIRE YOUNG GUN FROM RED SOX

Well Dan Ortmeier, pack your bags you're going to Boston! That's right, the Giants have aqcuired hard throwing Daniel Bard from the Red Sox for Dan Ortmeier. Ortmeier had a few words for his friends but have not been made public.

Daniel Bard came out and talked first:

Quote:
Well, I'm going to miss the Red Sox club, they had a great team. But that's how things go and I wish them luck and am excited to play for the Giants ball club. And I hear it's warm year round. I'll be alittle bit closer to home too.

(The last part is true, he was born in Houston Texas)

It looks like the new General Manager can manage things as he's made a great trade to pick up someone to help out a needed and depleted bullpen.

As the General Manager put it:
Quote:
My receptionist taught me well, she said that trades are used to bolster areas of your team that need work. I can read stats and it seemed the bullpen could use alittle middle relief help and I went out and got it.

Steve Phillips was quoted on Baseball Tonight as saying
Quote:
I think it's great that their are people within the organization helping this general manager learn the ropes.

Eugenio Velez was optioned to triple A to make room for Daniel Bard for the game.

CLAY TIMPNER TO FINALLY BE CALLED UP?

Buster Olney has gotten a new report from the continuation of last months story. It seems that the General Manager and Bruce Bochy has finally both agreed on calling up prospect OF Clay Timpner.

The President first hearing on this cam out and said "This is Wonderful!"

It has been agreed upon to call him up when the next injury of 10 games or more occur OR by Draft day.

Bruce Bochy was unavailble to comment. It is unknown what his standpoint was on this.

Clay Timpner scouting report:
Image

Bats and Throws lefty, true southpaw
Has excellent speed could steal 30+ bases a year
Great defense, strong arm good instincts
Batting may be a concern, raw power
Would be a useful utility man

KUNG FU PANDA TIES IT UP IN THE ELEVENTH HOUR!!

down 2-1 in the top of the ninth, Sandoval hits on just left of the wall and it's gone! Then Ruggiano comes through in the clutch and drives home Winn two batters later.

Then Brian Wilson comes in and seals the game, however he had trouble finding the strike-zone. He still didn't allow a hit as he collects his 10th save of the year.

Let's take a closer look at Brian Wilson:

Image

Brian Wilson was born in Londonderry New Hampshire (I've been their before) on March 16th 1982. He debuted in the majors April 23 2006 against the Rockies at Coors field. He tossed 2 innings, giving up 2 hits, no runs and 3 strike-outs. He competed for the closer role in 2007, but consequently lost the battle and was assigned to the Minors where he spent much of the year. In August he was called up and used as a set-up man, and eventually became closer.

As of today, July 4th, 2009 he has 60 career saves.

His arsenal includes a nasty fastball that has reached 101MPH before. He also throws a biting Hard Slider. He is excels with runners in scoring position, he has been playing pro ball for 5 year.

In other news... Daniel Bard has yet to pitch as a member of the Giants. He said he hasn't been bothered by it.

Quote:
I know I'm not going to pitch every night. I'm on the roster and I sit in the bullpen like the other pitchers do. I'm going to have to wait for the right time to come in. The starters have really been playing well as of late. I'm going to pitch eventually.

DAY OF FIRSTS AS GIANTS GO DOWN TO THE FISH 6-5

A bone-headed play by Uribe to end it too. With Harvery Garcia up, he hits the PERFECT DP ball, and on third is Bonafacio, so he trys to throw home instead of the easy DP...

Medders pitched O.K in his return.

Bard made his debut as a Giant and it was good. First he gave up a dinger to Hermida, then got bases loaded with 1 out. He was pulled Howry put in, and Howry strikes out the last two.

Uribe has been benched 4 games due to the bone-headed play and his lack of offensive support. Kevin Frandsen will take his spot and bat 3rd.

BENGIE MOLINA BEING SHOPPED

Bengie Molina is being shopped currently for some more pitching.

If Molina is traded it is speculated that Pablo Sandoval will become the catcher and Rich Aurilia will be start at 3rd. Other say rookie Stephen Holm will become the everyday starter although that's debatable as his bat isn't Major League ready.

I know I sorta rushed through May and didn't do any of my normal box scores things, it will be back in June.

Last month's reveiw took to long, I'm going to do just a summary of the team. (Coming soon!)

GIANTS MANAGEMENT IN TURMOIL!

Bruce Bochy has fired back on Clay Timpner by saying, and I quote:

Quote:
I NEVER agreed upon this, I don't know what the General Manager is talking about!

This raises an eyebrow to the president about the GM, was he lying?

Management is in huge turmoil!

Considering draft day is 8 days away we will soon find out if Timpner gets called up.

Should Clay Timpner speak out and clear this up?

Steve Phillips says he shouldn't talk alot beacause he can't clear it up. He can't get his self called up. And if he comes and says I want to get called up or don't, then the Manager will be proven dead wrong, or the management will be dead wrong, and that could prove costly either way for Timpner.
