In 2007/2008 MLB Power Pros Success Mode, EVENTS are classified as the following:
  • Key events: those which always happened at a particular date and triggered by advancing the schedule
  • Random events: those which may or may not happen on a particular date and triggered by advancing the schedule

In 2007 MLB Power Pros Success Mode, COMMANDS were made up of resting, practicing, going to the doctor, studying, dating, working. While executing a command, some event could occur, but not really random, just one of many possiblities for doing that command, a command event.

Maybe, we can add that one to the list for 2007, but that is not what I am asking for here.

  • Command Event: those events that occur during a Command, not in between commands when advancing the schedule like Random and Key.

These command events are very similar to 2008 MLB Power Pros Success Mode, when going to one of the many different locations around the city utilizing the Free Time Command.

In 2008 MLB Power Pros, it has been made a little more complicated though, there are four or more different types of commmand events now:
  • Regular Command Events: those that are just a formality of picking what you want to do with fixed outcomes, like going to the street and being allowed to pick a movie, which results in you not liking, liking it or really loving it or gong to the park to walk, run, stretch, or pick up garbag.
  • People Command Events: those Free Times that are different because someone is at the place now, i.e. Frank at the Lookout, Emily at the park, Lucy at the vicinage, Isabella at the steakhouse.
  • ?? Command Events: those Free Times that are an interaction with someone, like Marvin at the Mountains, or Marvin in the park when you see emily for the first time.
  • ?? Command Events: those Free times that are different because someone is at the place now, but a somewhat random event occurs, like Terry coming in and you learn about him being skinny.

I am really having difficulty defining what these should be called. Too even add even more confusion, some people command events are just Regular Command Events, like after you get the private eye job with Jaw. But in order to get Jaw to show up on the street, you need his "Random" event to occur.

Also, dating arcs, may be key, random, and command event driven all during the same arc, (i.e. Dating Lucy Arc).

Maybe, I am thinking to hard about this, but I am trying to work on the Wiki and get an understanding of the classification for each of the events in success mode.

What do you people think?

(Maybe this should actually be under the Wiki general discussion?)

I am not asking if this should go in the Wiki. I am asking, "how would you classify the events that occur during success mode?"

Let's be nice. This is actually a very valid question.

I wouldn't go so far as to make them very specific. I would take it as there are two types of events, each with two sub-types.

Fate Events: Events that you do not have a choice to participate in (or avoid).
Free Events: Events you have the ability to take or avoid whenever you see them. These events may be 'available' only at certain times or even randomly, but you have a choice to take them or not when they appear.

Let's divide the Fate Events - they always occur when advancing the schedule (manually or when you run out of commands):

Key Events: Events that ALWAYS occur at the same time each run through. These also include the "failure" events (not clearing AA or AAA) that will also occur at the same time each run through.
Random Events: Events triggered that are not part of any Side Story (character arc). Exception: the "introductory" event to start a side story can be a Random Event (sneaky, I know).

Let's divide the Free Events into 2 categories:

Free Time Alone: By yourself, no one's there. Like what you've already done with the street events.
Side Story Advancement: When someone is there, you go to the next scene on that character's path.

However, each Side Story (or character arc as it has been referred to here) has their own set path(s) to be followed. The complete Side Story should be laid out on one page, not separated into individual events because they depend on each other.

Thanks Max! I think your comments are a lot better start than what I proposed. So to keep the thoughts rolling, here are some questions and the beginning of Phase II:

1) How would you classify Jaw's task? I wouldn't really consider it an Arc or Side Story because it never advances. Now, Jaw's introduction is a Random Fate Event. I would agree with that. Jaw's Task's would be more like the classification of Free Time Alone, but the definition really doesn't fit either.

2) How would you classify Isabella and the Steakhouse? Again, her introduction is a Random Fate Event. The Legendary cow is definitely an Arc, I think the selection of the three steaks is a mini-arc, but sometimes when you go no one is there or you go and she asks you to eat or work? I think these fall under the intent of Free Time Alone, but you actually interact with other people (well Isabella)?

3) How would you classify Dr. Goodjob? Defintelly a Free Event since I get to choose what to do, not a side story, so it would fall under Free Time Alone, but again the defintion doesn't really fit.

So, Instead of Free Time Alone, how about Stand Alone events?

In Summary,

Fate Events: Events that you do not have a choice to participate in (or avoid).
  • Key Fate Events: Events that ALWAYS occur at the same time each run through. These also include the "failure" events (not clearing AA or AAA) that will also occur at the same time each run through.
  • Random Fate Events: Events triggered that are not part of any Side Story (character arc). Exception: the "introductory" event to start a side story or make available stand alone events can be a Random Event.

Free Events: Events you have the ability to take or avoid whenever you see them. These events may be 'available' only at certain times or even randomly, but you have a choice to take them or not when they appear.
  • Stand Alone Free Events: Events in which you are by yourself or interact with others that do not need a prior event to occur or are needed to advance a story. Exception: Events that require a random event to occur before they appear, but continue to repeat can be a Stand Alone Event.
  • Side Story Free Events: Events in which you interact with a character to advance to the next scene on that character's path.

Jaw events are random, provided you are below a certain $$$ level... still a random event, since it won't occur at the same time every time and there is no progress.

Since I don't know Izzy's story or the steakhouse very well. If you can actually progress with Izzy, then she has her own arc that isn't visible normally. Otherwise... they're just basic free time events.

Dr. Goodjob I thought was a Random Fate Event, where you can choose to avoid him if you so desired. Getting to make a choice during the event doesn't make it a free one... You weren't free to bump into him in the first place.... Random Fate Event.

Doesn't matter how they are named... just as long as you are consistent...

Thanks for clearing up the Dr. Goodjob event. That comment puts everything back in perspective. The way that you meet them defines Fate versus Free. Of course Dr. Goodjob's event will be really hard to fill out since it seems so random.

Isabella does have her own side story, finding the legendary beef cow, when completed gives you a boost of anywere from +8 to +24 power (as reported so far on the forum). During the entire story, though, you will be increasing your power since everytime you visit her your power increases (by what depends on how many different steaks you have tried).

I am not quite sure what you mean by Jaw events are random. Only the initial meeting of Jaw is Random. After that it is a Free Event and he appears at the street after that consistently. I have had him appear at the street while having $6000 in the bank, so his appearance there I don't believe is money dependent. Although strangely enough the initial meeting could be triggered by going to the shop, or more likely. I have bought items and not bought anything at the shop and his event has occurred.

they, i believe, are talking about Jaw's first event be able to talk to him. Even though Jaw does show randomly after the first event, he is sometimes there, and sometimes he isnt.

Yes, the wiki has been very far behind what is should be at this point and is only really just getting started. I haven't done my part either and have only wrote one page (Triple A).

You could probably easily gather 10 pages of info from the forums and put it on the wiki. If anyone has the time to do it.
