I just pick a young guy and go for it. Bumgarner is 24, so I'd pick a 24ish year old pitcher on the Giants and make him into Bumgarner.

Thing is, that would make him 24 now but the birthdate would be off.

Well phillies, you and I are updating rosters differently than others, and dusty's on the Ps2, so it wouldn't effect us anyway.

i find that dusty is doing this very well because with the manual updates he is doing both ps and wii people can update their rosters. dont get me wrong i like how some people are doing the success players because if you cant find a certain age for a player then thats where success comes into play.

i dont think we really need to worry about the actual birthdate more then the age, but thats just my take on it.

I'll include the players 2015 age in their stat line so it's all right there for ya.

I think that the future of MLBPP is in the straight up edit. That way you can get the whole universe updated quickly each season, and with the Giants full roster there are 15 guys that would need to be made in success mode. There are also on any given team a bunch of guys no longer in MLB, so I figure let's just replace them with someone who is in pro ball or at lest has a shot to make it in 2015.
I realize that it throws off the salary structure when buster posey is being paid like he is the 2007 Bengie Molina, but I guess I never found the salary structure to be the strong point of the game anyway. I debate about whether to just turn trades and free agency off altogether since the ComputerGM is so bad at handling rosters.

Also, if one is interested in updating rosters again in 2016, they will need to remake all those they made for 2015, plus rookies and foreign free agents added in the meantime. This is hands down the best baseball game ever made, and I love success mode, but that is just exhausting. I could probably edit 4 or 5 full rosters in the time it would take to get one success player. And that's assuming I'm not having to save/exit because of injuries or other freak occurrences.

So we can just do straight up edits, or are we doing these through success?

some are just attribute edits (players in the game and not), but some players we can decide to make in Success. I prefer to have a close birthdate but it takes less time to make it incorrect. So far, we have differing opinions on how to do it.

Is it okay if we post links to players if they are already made?

I think the two have to be separate - the success mode players we create are the correct age as of 2008. That's so anyone can plug them into the 2008 season and either play with them right then, or stash them in the minors for a few years.

If you edit the 2008 rosters to reflect players' ages as of 2015, then it will be all out of whack with success mode players, who will be their 2008 ages. Even the guys we just created, with 2014 debuts, have DOBs relative to 2008.

We can get up to 200 players in via success, but with about half the 2008 players out of the game, it isn't enough. I'll keep handling the real-life success mode players to get 150 or so that anyone can throw into the 2008 game and redirect the path of their favorite franchise; the 2015 roster update probably can't use those guys, unless having them be 7 years younger than they are today is OK.

I'm not sure how to feel. I'll get around to editing players in that are close enough to their birthdate (1987-88 or 1986-87) but in the meantime I'll also try and make more players too young (1988-89 and beyond) in Success. To me it doesn't matter if their age reads 2008 in-game because you can pretend you're in the 2015 season as long as the birth year is still the same. I just prefer having the year right instead of them being older (i.e. 2008 age) just so you have them.

I hadn't conceived the idea that we would take the starting year of 2008 literally.
I'm just as willing to ignore the actual year it reads on the screen as I am fully on board with none of these players having legs.
The thing is, we would be entering in the abilities of fully-realized-best-pitcher-in-the-Milky-Way-25-year-old Clay-K into
18 year old Clay-K's body. So where's the realism in that?

I feel like I'm yum yucking now. Sorry. To each her/his own MLBPP tastes.
